After watch the TDF, I found myself getting annoyed at the commentator pronouncing local place names as they are spelt.
For example, Greetland is all one word. Greet Land, sounds like a happy place where people say hello to each other 24/7.
Sowerby, pronounced Sawby, not Sow er by.
Americans and Bradford. Brad Ford sounds like a news reader.
Anyone got a place that sounds different near them? |

Where I grew up...Greenock, we say Greenauch, others say Green Oak, sassenachs achh blame Hughie Green for that lol ( if you saw that show when he was there )     |

I had to do a spelling test when I went for a job at BT. I got Guiseley wrong because she pronounced it 'Geezley'. And don't even get me started on Slaithwaite. I swear people pronounce it any way they damn well please. |

Lol did that test too about 30 years ago, got them right, but when they said what the hours were for the money I said, " nah not interested" but yes people do pronounce any darnnn way but the local way should always be used, me thinks |

ah good old "slawit" sally traffic gets it wrong every time the A62 gets blocked haha at least the girl on victoria station gets it some where near
