Bradford

After watch the TDF, I found myself getting annoyed at the commentator pronouncing local place names as they are spelt.

For example, Greetland is all one word. Greet Land, sounds like a happy place where people say hello to each other 24/7.

Sowerby, pronounced Sawby, not Sow er by.

Americans and Bradford. Brad Ford sounds like a news reader.

Anyone got a place that sounds different near them?

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I had to do a spelling test when I went for a job at BT. I got Guiseley wrong because she pronounced it 'Geezley'. And don't even get me started on Slaithwaite. I swear people pronounce it any way they damn well please.
