Thing is i have paid this guy to do it for me a fair few times in the past but when i have the funds available.
He does a cracking job, but its the 2nd time no he has presumed id want it done.
Im just back from a break after spending out a fair bit of money so its all a bit tight. I'll end up paying him like i did the last time (and yes i did ask him if he would only do it when i ask)
Just annoyed |

"Surely they can't charge you if you didn't give them permission to do it/agree to pay them for their unwarranted service?...
Or was this a euphemism for something I don't get?
- Amy. x"
nah really is just a thread on grass cutting lol
i would be stubborn n refuse to pay because i never asked for the service but then would i be shooting myself in the foot as he might refuse to cut my grass again |

If it is a regular arrangement you have with the person who cut it and you failed to inform them you did not want the grass cut as you were away, then you have an obligation to pay as you failed to cancel the contract, be it written or verbal.
If however you request the service on an ad hoc basis, say by calling them irregularly and they turned up without any promoting or a request then you do not need to pay as you did not contract them for the service, they volunteered to do it |

It reminds me of those people who used to wait at traffic lights and spray and clean* your windscreen when you've said no.
They'd still stick their hand through the window and expect money.
*("Clean" = Taking a perfectly clean/newly washed windscreen and turning it into a smudgy horrible mess). |

This, I would pay them for it this time but have a word and make it clear that as your funds are limited, you only want it cut as and when you ask for it and no more.
If he then does it again, I'd refuse to pay. x |

I hate mowing my lawn. However, I'm not sure if coming back from my hols to find a bill would be much of an improvement.
However, more importantly, MUCH more importantly, did you bring us all back some rock? |

Tell him that you've already told him once before, pay him & then get someone else the next time.
When he realises that he's lost the business, if he has a business brain, he'll offer you a grovelling freebie! |

I would write a note stating that the service is needed only when requested. Id aim not to pay out now, but be a little willing - but extremely unlikely - to pay him after a delay, if he cuts two for the price of one in future, when he then gets cash. If you have not budgeted then it is entirely unfair to expect payment as you do not have a rolling agreement with him. |

Well if you've told him before then I'd refuse to pay. Tell him it's because you've been away and money's tight, he can't get in a huff then.
I'm sure he'd come back for more strimming in the future. |

"he's only gone and bloody done it again!! im refusing to pay when he comes knocking.. arghhh!!! "
Refuse point blank to pay him . Tell him this is the 3rd time he has done the work without you asking him . I would also inform him that you don't want him to do the lawn anymore.
If this does happen again through him not taking any notice of the terminated works , inform him that his deals is being sent to Dominic from cowboy builders and he's going to be in very very big trouble !
In a serious note , just be blunt . X |

Cute...tell him to bog off you are not paying" true but my post above said about not paying him so he might think twice about doing it again |

Kindly remind them that it can be considered trespass committing an act on your property.
I wonder if you can claim property damage for your cut grass too |

If you didn't ask him to do it, and have specifically told him only to do it when he asks, he can not charge you for it.
Tell him you were growing it, lol, that'll confuse him
If he's still going on about it, tell him to take the matter to court - where of course you could then make your case that you were away and hadn't asked him to do it.
Do you have anything you could use as proof of being away?
Sounds a bit drastic I know, and I doubt he'd pursue it anyway. |

Because you've paid before, he'll keep on doing it now. Did you tell him last time 'no more'? He probably thinks he has a contract with you. Tell him no more and If he does it again, just don't pay him. |
