a few days ago, a user wrote, what i considered to be, a derogatory comment against me. in hindsight, i may have misinterpreted what the user wrote.
have you ever misinterpreted what someone wrote in the forum and did you regret how you responded to it? |

It was pointed out to me that a comment i took as derogatory once was actually not. I looked again but I still couldn't see how it wasn't. I blocked the offender and there was never any further comment from him on the thread so have to assume I was right. |

The hazards of the written word, no accompanying facial expression or body language to clarify and illuminate the nuances of what is written. Yes all the bloody time, dry humour often goes under a lot of people's radar and they are offended rather than made to laugh |

It is hard, no matter how good you are at expressing yourself in yhe written word, to convey meaning accurately. Especially subtle humour. I have fallen foul of it too often for my own liking but it sadly is just the way it is. I'm usually better at it if I take more time to think, read again and reflect before responding. It certainly helps if I don't allow my initial emotional reactions to drive an immediate response.
I now need to re-read what I've written and take note for my future interactions |

It happens quite a bit on here
The written word can be often be taken the wrong way without facial expressions and hearing the tone. Plus people have different types of humour.
I also think that a persons mood can often be a factor. If your feeling a bit prickly then you can more likely to take it the wrong way.

It happens a lot. Quite often I write something that people interpret as the product of a nut job, when in reality they should have construed it as showing that I am awesome. Or maybe not. I might have misinterpreted my own post. These things happen. Not enough sugar in my tea, possibly. |

....and some people just love to take offence at anything and everything. |

We all misinterpret but then a lot post in a vague way as they want to belittle in a subtle way and avoid timeouts. But the answer to your question has to be yes for everyone as its the types word and you get no real intent or facial input into an on line communication but usually I would say your first interpretation of someone's remarks will be correct. |

yes and being able to say oops fecked up there, sorry is not a problem..
then again if the person 'misinterprets' it cos they have an agenda or just being a nob then bollocks to that they can deal with it and revel in their umbrage.. |
