Any tips on how to boil rice and get it nice and fluffy ? Tried a rice cooker and that didn't work either !!

One cup of rice to two cups of cold water. Bring to the boil, turn hear down to a summer, put a close fitting lid on, leave for fifteen minutes or until all the water has gone.

Wash it to take away the starch. Add enough water to cover the rice. Let it boil. Then when its aldente remove from the heat. Put on a lid and leave it alone dont stir it or lift the lid. Leave for about 5- 10 mins.

should be perfect

Rinse your rice till the water runs clear.

Put in a pan with twice the volume of water (1 cup rice to two cups water).

Put on the highest heat till the water boils.

Clamp the lid on and turn down to the lowest possible heat.

DO NOT OPEN THE LID for 18 - 20 mins (check the cooking time on your rice packet).

When time is up take off heat and remove the lid and let the steam evaporate for a few mins.

Fluff with a fork before serving.

For something so simple its a right motherfucker to cook just like the curry house cook their rice.

I do the above (aldente) put it in a sieve and pour a fresh boiled kettle over it. Get it wrong and its like a shit rice pudding.

Chilli con carne tonight as it happens.

Im not so sure on these, I find some of the rice is great but some stick together.

What dosent help is my microwave is a 700w. Very rarely do you see heating instructions to that wattage, yeah you can guess etc.

Have you tried the flat pack/tub type rice you can buy, I think it cooks better?

I quite often end up egg frying my rice with a little soy sauce as it gets rid of any shitty grains/errors.

Bingo!!! Lidl's 'Golden Sun' microwavable Pilau Rice; 1min 55secs & it's perfect!!

I, like the OP have similar squishy rice problems!!

I'm a cook and cant cook rice to save my life. I've tried all methods and it turns out like rice pudding every time.

Don't get me started on boiled eggs...

Jamie Oliver has a method of part cooking, then putting it in a sieve (sift) covering it in foil and suspending it over boiling water. Sounds simple but I didnt see any huge advantage this way after a couple of attempts.

Also he probably pours the rice in from 6ft up in the air and on tv you dont see all the spillage it makes.

No measuring or preparing anything.

As much rice as you think youll need, pour boiling water over it to just cover the rice. 10 mins in the microwave (or 12 mins if you have a lower power microwave).

Take it out and eat it

Its has an inner bowl and a lid. When it has cooked you just lift out the inner bowl and what water is left sat in the outer bowl. Doesnt actually use that much water anyway, just to literally cover the rice.

Everything is very light and fluffy. No washing the rice, cling film or anything.

You do have to wash the bowl afterwards though

I can ususaly get the veet micro rice for 99p,look around,and when its on offer I buy about half a dozen,i can cook rice realy well,but I cant cook rice pudding top tip if you want to fry rice ,cook it the night before spread flat on baking sheet and leave to go cold,it doesn't stick in the frying pan then

I use a non stick frying pans and it works. I do add a little oil to the pan before the rice, it dosent stick.

You forgot the last bit; scraping the rice off the bottom of the pan & mixing it with the squishy rice above, - hoping to get a happy medium!!

It just doesn't work for me, - even when I buy the most expensive basmati rice, wash it for about 1/2 hr, 2-1 water to rice ratio, bring to the boil & then

simmer on the lowest heat in my heaviest base pan

It only turns out one way, - rice pudding!!

Maybe I should just add cream & have it for dessert!!

My world famous Chilli con carne here too, topped with melted Cheddar, a dollop of guacamole on top of a bigger dollop of soured cream & sprinkled with paprika - but on spaghetti & nachos, - definitely not chancing rice!!

I cheat ....make my own curry or chilli then nip round to local curry house as it cooking and buy just the rice .....perfectly cooked rice with every meal

Follow the instructions on the packet or any of the previous suggestions that best fits what the instructions say.

NOW the key is once it is almost cooked (about 1 minute shy) remove fom the heat and cool thoroughly with cold water, leave it soaking in the cold water while you boil another pan of water just enough to cover the rice loosely about 2 times water to rice.

Once the water is boiling drain the rice and put into the fresh boiling water for 1 min then drain and serve your perfectly cooked non stick rice.

Good Quality Rice and Good Quality Cooker

Things to keep in mind.

1. Wash the rice 2-3 times then drain

2. 1 is to 1 ratio of rice and water

3. (Optional) Remove the lid for a few minutes before it is cooked to release steam.
