Some simple guidelines do help, as often school was a while back and wanking at the back of class was more interesting. Maybe do a post a day to lift the general awareness, adding new aspects each time. |

There was a thing online a while ago that said that people mostly skim read and only read the first and last letters of most words so the rest can be totally jumbled and will still make sense, I read really quickly anyway and can't say I've noticed any really really bad ones, but I've not been on as much lately so maybe I've missed them |

Generally, I'm not really too arsed when I get badly spelled or punctuated messages. No one is perfect and English spelling rules are complex with many irregularities. I have a degree in English and still cock things up.
However, if I need a code breaker's guide to work out what is written, I simply lose interest. |

"Would of....
Definately"
Even better is 'defiantly'. Completely changes the meaning and I imagine a little foot stamp and hair toss whenever I see it.
I don't mind a typo though. We all do it. |

". I'd have said a colon followed by a hyphen.
Why is that?
Because it may be old and redundant but that's no reason to ignore it."
Apparently you're referring to the (now redundant) 'dog's bollocks' which would have been a colon followed by a dash (not a hyphen) |

Mine is set to English and it does sometimes come up with incorrect spellings. I can't edit the dictionary on mine either. I can remove individual words as they come up but I can't access the actual dictionary it's using. |

Well there are words on his profile that I've never seen in any language.
On mine it usually just chooses an incorrect variant, not an incorrectly spelled word. It only really annoys me when it won't let me change it - or when I expect it to correct a word for me but it doesn't! |

I grew up on a diet of PG Wodehouse. I still remain astounded by his use of the language. As a professor, I now have to grade student papers that are truly appalling in grammar and spelling. What's worse is that these are native English speakers. I am not - I am Indian by origin.
I have a similar feeling when looking at some messages here. Yes, I agree that this is not a websites hat should be a stickler for the proper use of English. However, I imagine many of the ladies here would appreciate it! |

Commas are used to separate items in a list.
They are also to separate tbe subordinate clause from the main clause in a complex sentence.
This is taught in primary schools. |

Indeed. Those who care already make an effort to get it right. Poor English isn't a result of lack of available information on how to use it correctly. |

Couldn't agree more. We live by the same philosophy. At no point did I say that people who use poor grammar and text speak should die. I never meant to imply that at all. Simply that it is a turnoff for us. Not the worst one for sure, but a turnoff nonetheless. For us. Personally.
Surely if we could control what turns us on and what doesn't, most would choose to be turned on by that which was most readily available to them, thus bringing abundant satisfaction to all, and there would be much less moaning, to say the least.
It is important to note that we are not saying you should feel the same way we do. You have the right to not be turned off by it exactly as much as we have the right to. And we respect that. |
