Modern research suggests that interbreeding took place between modern humans and neanderthals. Now don't get me wrong, no disrespect to the Neanderthals. But how pissed do you have to be before a neanderthal chick starts to look sexy? It would take serious amounts of ale before I thought to myself 'i'm gonna nail that neanderthal bitch, it's somthing about her brow ridges!' But it happened! Neanderthal loving mother fucker! |

Don't forget when Neanderthal's were about humans looked very different, closer looking to a Neanderthal than a modern day human, maybe you would see them in a different light if you looked like one |

Did cavemen brew their own alcohol? Maybe they ate some magic mushrooms?
Beer goggles or magic mushroom effect could be a factor in it. |

I find the neanderthals fascinating. They were very like us. Research suggests they had language and culture. They made some lovely jewellry but they only starting making it after seeing modern humans doing it. They were forest dwellers and when the landscape started to change they could not adapt as well as modern humans. They became marginalised, and died as a species. A sad end for our cousins! |

You have it the wrong way round, modern humans learned craft skills from the Neanderthals, plus they populated this world 12 times longer than modern humans have been here so far (and longer still if they are in the current gene pool) so what's the chances of modern humans surviving as long as our cousins did? |

"Apparently neanderthal/human interbreeding was mostly male neanderthals boning female humans. But that was not as funny and suggests hairy rapists!"
Maybe neanderthal males had bigger clubs, which human females were attracted to? |

Thats not what I have read, they were an evolutionary dead end. Modern humans were much more adaptable and better able to cope with things like climate change. It's not by accident that they are not here and we are. That said it would be arrogant to assume we could not go the same way. I suspect we will not because were just so clever and inventive |

very good, its believed that it was because of humans they died out as Neanderthal's died out within a few thousand years of humans appearing, they had a much smaller brain cavity to ours which suggests a much smaller brain possibly meaning they couldn't compete with is for land and food or adapt to change, where as human can adapt very well, if humans die out it will most likely be by our own hand |

"Found written on a cave wall
No Neanderthals. Not racist, just my preference " that is funny! How many profiles are on here that say stuff like that for real? 'I'm not racist but...' Such people are appaling |

So if you have preferences you are classed as racist? |

"Thats not what I have read, they were an evolutionary dead end. "
Neanderthal had a global population covering at least large parts of the worlds land mass (not the same as it is today) for about 575,000 years, Modern Homo Sapiens about 50,000 years, and the two species or sub species, depending on which theory you follow co-existed for about 25,000 years.
There is evidence that shows Neanderthal invented cooking of food, tools for many tasks including painting and sewing which may indicate they became extinct after a fashion industry screen print disaster. |

" aye. They were dead clever, i'm not denying that. I wonder if they had music? It's interesting to speculate on that. I wish they were still around so we could ask them |

They were likely not the only other human species that we and they bred with. Thousands of years ago Europe was much less populated and sexual needs would have been as great. Perhaps more casual no strings action was where it was at for them all. Finding willing and free female partners for sex would have greater difficulty then than for a single guy on fab, as there were really low numbers of all species alive then. Most white Europeans have neanderthal genetics in their makeup due to these shags and love trips. Offspring may have survived more easily than their hosts due to greater abilities, hence their genes being so widespread today. Im glad I have something from so long ago that keeps the animal alive in me. |

"Died out because their language skills were lacking.
Kind of lost in translation" Analysis of there vocal chords (or rather the bones around the voicebox) suggests speech would have been possible. I believe they must of had language, they were too clever not to have had. Apparently though they would have had high voices in comparison with us as they would have had short vocal chords |

Hard to say as no soft tissue remains, but certainly early skulls show a much heavier jaw bone so you can extrapolate larger muscles would have been attached and the finesse of mouth shape required would have made speech impossible, later skulls do show an evolution to a lighter jaw bone probably due to cooking food (requires less power to chew it).
Tool manufacture was prolific, from sewing needles to axes, but little has been found to suggest they changed from nomadic hunters to farming, so their fate was probably determined by climatic factors affecting the game they hunted more than anything else. |
