Should he stay, resign as captain, leave the England team?
Personally think he should resign as captain and stay on in the team his form has been shocking over the last 18 months
I would have broad replace him |

Why replace him? The other players are no better as captains. If you look at captains through the years, all of them have suffered dips in form due to the captaincy. He deserves the time to rediscover his form and to evolve as a captain. Other players names have been thrown into the mix but would they be any better having played under Alistair for so long? Suspect not

stick with him for now , largely because there is no real candidate to replace him , it seems whoever does the job has a dip in form . however if the india series is as bad as the sri lanka one then try ian bell . |

Id like to see him replaced but with who is the problem! There is no one that has the personality to step up to the captaincy!
I like michael clarkes style in your face, changes fields to suit the bowlers strengths an batsmans weaknesses and takes calculated risks to win the game and he will win at all costs! Unfortunately we havent got anyone like that right now. |

All he can do is (this week) as his seamers to 'pitch it up' instead of this 'back of a length' bullshit.
Sri Lanka came out, pitch it up and took wickets, thats not Alister's fault |

He isn't aggressive as captain, his declarations are too conservative, he doesn't declare until the team can't lose rather than declaring when the team can win, 1st test against Sri Lanka he should of declared just after tea giving his bowlers an hour at the batsmen, instead he gave them a nights rest and left his bowlers to try get them out in a day, that's poor captaincy, he needs to concentrate on his batting |

A lot of past England captains have been blighted with the same problem. It seems to be in the nature of the selectors and coaches to install a fear of loss into the sides and that breeds the conservative tactics.
Also, after seeing two test matches, it's plain to see we need a top class spinner and that should be a priority for the county coaches/England selectors. |

I agree he could do a better job but then, who couldnt in any walk of life?
However, as mentioned above by many - who else could do it?
Bell - Might wreck him, I dont think he's captained Wark's much but will have plenty of experience.
Prior - He's not nailed down to play and injuries have been plenty recently.
Broad - Best choice, some experience from being a capt.
Andersons - A bowler as captain. Dosent happen much/any experience?

I would not look at short-term trends. He is someone who can flourish over time. Great maturity. Most of the others are well into their prime and won't last more than three to four years. |

I reckon someone who will bat at 5 or 6. Hopefully there's runs on the board so a bit less pressure to score. And in turn makes captaincy an little easier. It's a hard job when your top order is failing so consistently. |

How long term do we want to look? He's been in the team 2 years now, how long do we give someone to find there feet?

He has done both of those. His captaincy received criticism during the last home ashes series and deservedly so.

Replace him with who? Bell doesn't appear to think about the game and Broad hasn't made himself a worthy candidate at T20. Anderson is a thinker of the game and experienced but I don't think he wants to be Captain.
Cricket is one if those games where suddenly form returns out of the blue and Cook is unquestionably the better batsman in the side.
My concern is that he allows games to meander and doesn't try to seize control and makes changes too late. He needs to learn to go through plan a, b, c, and keep going and not show infinite patience with a plan when it clearly isn't working.
Couldn't believe the recent Test Match when it took him so long to resort to Ali and then almost as long to go back to him, even after taking 2 wickets, and he never used Root . I'm happy to go to my spinners and work them in tandem so why isn't he? If he doesn't trust Ali then why have him in the side?
Just needs to embolden his decisions and sooner. Form will return. |

The first Captain in Donkeys years to win a series in India and it was only last year we beat Australia in England. But it's gone wrong from there. |

I totally agree that he should remain in the side, his form will return but as a captain he is very very poor. He tends to be reactive in the field. |

I think we need to realise this is a new era for the Test side. No Trott, Swann or KP and lots of young players. No spinner(yet) of high class and a new coach who wasn't given the support previously with the first KP affair and although has done well at Lancs is finding his feet again internationally.
All English Captains of recent years tend to be quite conservative and would seem to rather risk drawing than going for the jugular with the possibility of losing.
The series with India is starting soon so let's hope Cook becomes more assertive and decisive in the field(we're all always learning) and get behind the boys and wait for Cook to find some form and the experienced heads to give the team the right support.
I think if we crumble in this series then the selectors may push him, if he doesn't fall on his own sword first. |
