While driving north between J22and J23 of the M1 the illuminated sign read
"July 6th- Tour De France-expect delays"
Excuse my pedance but if the Tour De France is coming through Leicestershire then they're massively off course.

That's as may be but it can hardly be considered the Tour De France when it's being held in the UK, if that were the case I could declare my house was in Australia and not have to pay council tax!

No not off course at all, every other year the tour starts in one of frances neighbouring countries. This year it starts in our fine country, the grand depart in fact starts up in the fine city of Leeds. Then works it way down to London, befor hopping across the chanel to France. |

"Blimey, you'd think people would be pleased that a major, worldwide sporting event is coming to their town and all people can do is moan about it. "
I have no problem with it, I just don't see why it's being called Le Tour De France when we're in England. |

Not when the major sports event is shutting down the entire city!
Luckily I am in London for the Grand depart, otherwise I would not be happy. I live 3 miles from any part of the route through York, yet all the roads around me are shut. |

The route's been well know for quite some time though, plenty of time to be prepared surely? |

Perhaps you should understand that it is a series named after the major sponsor - The World newspaper - before you make yourself look even more parochial than usual! |

Before we get too personal and abusive I would like to point out that this thread and my comments on it were intended to be light hearted. If you don't like my slightly grumpy sense of humour I suggest you ignore me.

I travel along some of the route as part of my daily commute (in the car I hasten to add), often I see a new banner on display, a few in different languages which is fantastic.
I understand from my dad that the Caribbean cricket club which is perfectly placed on route is supportive and now I'm thinking of going there to watch it - should be very entertaining - especially from those of my dad's generation whose comments I know will crease me up as tact and diplomacy isn't high on their agenda |

I was pretty confused about this too so did a bit of looking up online.
It's not the Grand Depart starting in Yorkshire this weekend which is the opening leg and starts in a different country each year.
I do wonder if we had to bid for it to come here?
Anyway they will be going past the top of my road so it seems silly not to take the kids to watch |

Hence why I said North America, I probably should have said the North American continent for clarity. |
