Is it just me that finds the reaction to these sort of incidents as a little strange, as far as the desired punishment goes?

Many are calling for a longer ban than a player would get for ending another player's career with a dangerous tackle.

Being bitten is unpleasant in the extreme to be sure, and a man doing it on three separate occasions does invite much deserved opprobrium - but even so, the calls for a lifetime ban seem a little odd to me.

"

Intent is something of an issue, but sometimes I think it's fairly clear-cut.

I seem to remember Ben Thatcher getting an 8 game ban for a forearm smash on Mendes so severe that he was knocked unconscious and went on to suffer a seizure in the back of an ambulance.

For me, that is worthy of greater punishment than a bite (even 3 bites).

Always a risk for both players involved in a tackle, but going out your way to Bite another player or anyone in fact is totally different and deserve the most punishment the powers to be can give him

Biting isn't exactly sporting behaviour and after three times, yes I think a lifetime ban is warranted.

Some footballers are over-paid drama queens who think they can behave exactly as they like. Apparently to a greater or lesser extent, they can. It needs to stop.

Suarez is the PFA and sports writers player of the year.

He is the best player in the premier league.

He is worth around £70 to £100 million.

Anyone who thinks Liverpool or the Premier league will just write that off is crazy. If he was a player nobody has heard of it would not be worth the hassle.

Yes it's a disgrace, yes he has previous but football is a business. At worst he will be sold to a foreign club.

He reminds me of a kid in the playground who lashes out when things don't go his way.

I wonder what FIFA will do seeing as the whole world has seen it.

But that was for an assault on a match official.

FIFA actually can.....

they can retrospecively ban someone for up to 24 games... or 2 years, whichever is the longer... also they have to make any ban a worldwide one if they wish...

they have normally only done it for failed drugs tests so far... but acts where refs have been abused have also had this ban attached....

I think the clamour is going to be to ban him... question is how long since he will likely appeal and take it to the CAS....

but FIFA are going to say... 3rd time for the same offence

Lol if you read mine correctly I didn't say you think he should be jailed. I was asking if you thought he should be like you or I would apparently (which we wouldn't by the way).

No I think he deserves a ban. Players trying to snap someone's legs off is far worse in my opinion.

If your toddler did that at nursery school or to his siblings you'd take some action to stop such behaviour.

Shame on you if you think it's acceptable.

in his case..... since it would be the THIRD time he has done it... and he got a 7 game ban for it whilst at Ajax, and a 10 game ban for it for biting Ivanovic then yes... he is the one player where people would flag it up and say "hang on!" ... he has previous!!!

and the racial abuse example probably isn't the best to bring up since he got 10 games for doing that as well........

With a cracking view

Needs to be banned and fined ...

It's the third time he's done this type of thing, has he a problem that isn't recognised, or is difficult to be helped ???

Wasn't he supposed to be helped after the last time ??

Watched it a few times, and still trying to work out why he did it ?????

Happy to be corrected, but couldn't see it as him reacting to something ...

And then a team mate is trying to get the bitten shoulder covered up ...

What did he know ?????

"Is it just me that finds the reaction to these sort of incidents as a little strange, as far as the desired punishment goes?

Many are calling for a longer ban than a player would get for ending another player's career with a dangerous tackle.

Being bitten is unpleasant in the extreme to be sure, and a man doing it on three separate occasions does invite much deserved opprobrium - but even so, the calls for a lifetime ban seem a little odd to me."

You Scottish or Scouse? Lol

Nothing to do with Uraguay beating England or Suarez scoring two good goals to be the difference in the game. The simple fact that he's a dirty, cheating, c*** and more so than most. But this is the 3rd time I'm aware of. I'd say 3 times biting players on the pitch is worse than Cantonas crime and he received an 8 month ban.

Agreed that lifetime is a bit OTT, but I think a 6 month worldwide ban, with immediate effect, would suffice.

I don't think you are going to be far wrong...

I can see the suarez thing playing out something like this....

Fifa decide to ban Suarez from all football worldwide till July 1st 2015.....

Suarez then appeals and takes it to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport)

Both sides agree to Accept a lower punishment... ban until Jan 1st 2015.......

I honestly don't think Suarez plays again in 2014.....

Violent conduct is not acceptable, no matter what you think of the player.

I think international exile would really hit Suarez hard. Considering it was on football's biggest stage and his third offence, I think this plus a season long ban from all club level competitions. With all that time away from football, he'll have more than enough time for therapy as he desperately needs it.

I don't think a lifetime ban is over the top with this idiot. Crunching tackles have always existed in what is a contact sport. Biting is another layer of low altogether. The fact that he deliberately goes in to bite someone would suggest the guy isn't wired up right. He deserves no place on any sports field.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about the guy is hardly going to be scarred for life nor is he even injured!

Suarez is a high quality unpredictable player who is worth the admission fee alone. People love unpredictability so this bite just makes him even more marketable.

Don't ban him,embrace his brilliance!

The problem isn't Suarez, it's football! Over the last 20 years we have seen so many incidents of these spoilt brats getting away with it. We have seen so many incidents of severe violence on a pitch, if you or I but someone in work, kicked them in the head or broke someone's leg and ruine their career, would we still have a job? We have seen footballers fail drugs tests and be defended, other have gone to jail for violence and some for drugs, they are still seen as assests to the club. One footballer was caught having an affair with his brothers wife, we all looked the other way, there are no consequences for these guys.As football fans we look at these issues with the colours of our club in mind. I'm a Liverpool season ticket holder and I'm sickened by this man, again! Until football takes a stance, there will be plenty more threads like this.

"I'm not sure what all the fuss is about the guy is hardly going to be scarred for life nor is he even injured!

Suarez is a high quality unpredictable player who is worth the admission fee alone. People love unpredictability so this bite just makes him even more marketable.

Don't ban him,embrace his brilliance!

It's hardly Tyson v Holyfield!"

"OMG , i see Suarez has dined out on an Italian this time, must be banned for a long time this time !"

Such a waste of an amazing player!!

Maybe he'll have to play muzzled after his 2 year ban!!

"Blokes a disgrace to the game."

Very much in the same vein as Roy Keene and Eric Cantona.

Does football really need that kind of attention? It's arguably the world's most popular sport and has more than enough stars who don't go round biting other players.

To be fair I think what Cantona did was a lot worse.
