I've pulled my calf muscle a few times through various sports.To be honest I've never needed a stick so you either need to man up or you have done something more serious than pulling it. |

That would probably depend on if it is a tear of a pull. Have you been to casualty?
I suggest you at least try to rest it as much as possible, the sports injury Guru's suggest RICE.. Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation.
I would expect that you'll be suffering for at least a couple of week depending on what the injury actually is. |

If it's a proper tear 21 days is the time required. I did mine skiing a few years back and could barely walk. It's very prone to re-injury still. |

Yes if there was a bang I believe you have torn a significant amount, mine went with a bang. Acute inflammation subsides in 3 days normally but the repair of a muscle fibre takes 3 weeks I believe, so significant tears will be at least that long. |

If you have strained the tendon then a week should see an improvement. If its a tear, which can be painful I would not extend the muscle for at least four weeks and yes RICE is the only real treatment. |

Or park it firmly on something else. Certain vigorous workouts don't need the calf muscles. |

not if hes only pulled it.
Every time its happened to me doing calf raises in gym and my left calf goes.
I csnt walk for a few days then its fine for walking on.
I just wont train them for couple weeks.
but for pain to go and to walk normal like I said for me 3-6 days.
never tore a calf muscle so that may well be longer.

I would get it checked out if still painful after a few days. A physio.
If it went pop u sure it's not ligament damage?
Had u warmed up properly before hand, suffering any hamstring or glute tightness beforehand?

Mine went last Monday, was swollen and bruised but did RICE plus ibruprofen and while it hurt like buggery all the way around have just done a half marathon today. |

I can't find real clarification online - not sure if it is possible to 'overstretch' a muscle and just cause inflammation without any actual tearing? The acute inflammatory response is ofte around 3 days so anything requiring only 5 or 6 days would seem to be just resolving inflammation.
Or maybe it's possible to tear just a few fibres so that after the inflammatory response subsides the muscle is still capable of performing normally? Not sure.
When there is tearing it's proliferation that takes 3 weeks apparently, and remodelling up to 9 months. |
