Do you think anyone uses these names for their kids anymore? What other names are dying out?

There's someone in my town who's called their lad Trevor. He's younger than my boy about 2 I reckon. Just sounds weird when you hear her about his name in the high street them see a tiny toddler.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Names go through cycles. I know an Archibald, shortened to Archie, and a Sidney, shortened to Sid.

You just never know. Someone will be pregnant and watching Blackadder as they go into labour and the next thing you know they are affectionately calling their child Baldy.

"Sidney, Archibald, Clive."

Only ever known a Clive who was my parents generation.

One of the most popular names when I was a kid was Gary. Never hear kids called that now either.

I wonder if the WWI centenary will bring back some of the old names too.

There's a play about Walter Tull doing the rounds too.

When i was at school there was a kid in the same class as me called Damien. At PE all the kids would look if he had a 666 somewhere on his body.

The weird point here for me is that all these names sound 'classic' grandparent ones. In the future it'll be even weirder to hear, my granny Kylie...grandpa Brooklyn

Camberley

Only ever met one Tarquin, so guessing that's not so common now.

But lots of folks contract the older names, so there are plenty of:

Stan's

Theo's

Alfie's

and so on.

But would you shorten Ethelred to Ethel?
