Both big gym goers, Mrs N to tone her already fine body and myself to shift the party pack. She's looking extra hot and I'm currently 5 stone lighter than I was. |

I've been thirty day shredding and running and I hope to be very fit next Saturday at a club we are going to. In the interests of my physical exercise regime, I am hoping to be on top, most of the night

Great to hear people getting into fitness.
Make sure your diet is good aswell.
If you've been out the gym awhile, immune system might be down few days once you start.
Try aim 3 times a week.
Eat clean, look lean! |

"How much calories does having sex burn ??"
Depends how you have sex.. the intensity and the duration. I read that the average wank burns 70 calories... so you can have a blue ribbon to recover

It's a good job you mentioned that. You don't mention it enough in my opinion.

Sex isn't a consistent source of high intensity exercise let's be honest here and stop living in a fantasy world. If you want results join a gym and put the graft in. |

Well I can but I can't eat or drink so got no energy and without eating properly you can't make or maintain gains. So I don't go to gym at that time |

Why are they cocks because they lift weights? Sounds like jealousy to me. These people will most likely have strict diets and have to sacrifice a lot for their bodies, including social occasions, alcohol etc.
So if you can call them cocks, I think I'll call you a twat, if that's okay. I mean, you can facelessly call a bunch of people you don't know the first thing about "cocks", so me calling you a twat isn't even a big deal in the grand scheme of things, really |

Can you coherently explain why you have generalised everyone who goes to the gym and lifts weights as a "cock"? As for "people who get hard ons over how many KGs they can lift", you mean you're upset with people progressing and bettering themselves, right? Can you explain what you mean... I mean, maybe I've misunderstood you or *maybe* you're just that insecure and suffer from an inferiority complex?
As a side note, people on Fab really need to start acting their age. The amount of 30+ people who reply like children when pressed on a point is shocking. |

There wouldn't be arguments if people kept their ridiculously ill thought out comments to themselves and saved themselves from embarrassment. But you're right. I just dislike groups of people being called cocks from a faceless coward, who, let's be fair, would never actually say this to one of those "cocks". |

I don't think its in the forum rules that anyone needs to justify themselves, otherwise the bigoted posts would never get started. However there is this that pops up when you post: 'Don't badmouth other members', and I know that the mods get very cross at name calling. |

As a side note, and on a more calm and mature note, what do you personally dislike about steroid users? Open question to anyone. I have never used them despite being offered them but I know people who do, and they're sound and committed as hell. I don't blame them personally, bodybuilding is a slow art if you're going to do it properly and we only have a limited amount of time on this planet before we kick the bucket. If people want to make the most of their bodies in the relatively short period of time we're here for, then I personally don't blame them. It's their body and their business and it doesn't affect anyone else, unless someone can think of a way i may not have thought of? |

On a semi-seriious note..
Different sporting goals appeal to different people. Physical fitness is a combination of strength, speed and endurance and different sports require different levels of each of these attributes.
I mostly chase an egg for fun, but I do lift three times a week and my routine is boringly based around the 'big lifts' (Bench, Squat, Dead and OHP) - my sense of achievement with this lies in upping the weight, I don't see it as any different from when I used to swim competetively as a youth and I beat a PB or won a race.
I wont lie, it is a nice feeling being able to deadlift over double your own weight (I know this isn't much for a serious powerlifter, but I enjoy it)... |

I think when it comes down to the gym - it's about your own personal goals and that fulfillment you get when you reach it or go beyond your targets.
That's a good feeling - that and that burn on the last few reps you got in you. Hell yeah!!

It's not my fault you struggle to articulate yourself. You completely changed what you said in your initial post. You're fooling nobody, sweetheart.
And thanks, but I must give you all the credit for providing a ridiculous opinion and being unable to back it up with any reasonable argument whilst stereotyping a group of people you know nothing about! Truly, a job well done sir. |

"I think when it comes down to the gym - it's about your own personal goals and that fulfillment you get when you reach it or go beyond your targets.
That's a good feeling - that and that burn on the last few reps you got in you. Hell yeah!!
Or smashing your 1RM...
I swear I saw jesus the last time I tried to squat a PB..."
I deadlifted 190k the other day, my personal best (I know it's nothing special before anyone starts). My throat and nose hurt for the next two days. Yeah, I know, me neither. |

"On a semi-seriious note..
I wont lie, it is a nice feeling being able to deadlift over double your own weight (I know this isn't much for a serious powerlifter, but I enjoy it)..."
A double body weight deadlift is impressive for a six footer |

"How much calories does having sex burn ??
Depends how you have sex.. the intensity and the duration. I read that the average wank burns 70 calories... so you can have a blue ribbon to recover

I had that problem. I highly recommend starting off on DVDs at home (Rosemary Conley ones are fun) and work your way up. But I can assure you most gym goers are not looking at anyone else (apart from me. I look at their bums ) |

I only weigh 78 kg though so its only 156kg - my pb is 160.
So Bar = 20kg + 2 x 25g plates, 4x 20kg plates and a couple of littleuns. |

You'll have an induction so someone will be with you the first time. You could always make a few appointments with a personal trainer too, just to get you started.
I think if anyone thought anything on seeing you in a gym it would be admiration for getting there and making the effort. Most would commend you, if anything but as others have said, most are interested only in their own workout.
I really need to take my own advice...! (I can't afford a gym atm though so it's going to have to be walking, DVDs and working out at home for the time being). |

Make sure your diet is good aswell.
If you've been out the gym awhile, immune system might be down few days once you start.

Eat clean, look lean! " theres a lot of people on this thread that look like they frequent the gym quite often, but without being rude op are you sure you do? |

If you have short legs then you probably have a leverage advantage.
My personal best lifts where an overhead press of 80kg, and a push press of 75kg for 6. |

Last time I stepped in a gym I ended up discovering my scars weren't as healed as my Dr had said... So it was back to gentle bodyweight core work
Just need to find my motivation again |

"Can't stand the gym and all the cocks getting a hard on over how many kg's they can lift while looking in the mirror at themselves.
Prefer to keep fit using other methods
Why are they cocks because they lift weights? Sounds like jealousy to me.
These people will most likely have strict diets and have to sacrifice a lot for their bodies, including social occasions, alcohol etc.
So if you can call them cocks, I think I'll call you a twat, if that's okay. I mean, you can facelessly call a bunch of people you don't know the first thing about "cocks", so me calling you a twat isn't even a big deal in the grand scheme of things, really "
Some are cocks some are not, just the same as at the pub or work or anywhere else, theres a very good reason that a gym is full of mirrors too but maybe those who dont train dont understand the reason? |

Just get down there first... Don't talk just do.
After a couple if weeks it becomes second nature.
Find your level and don't worry what others can do or look like...
Once your comfortable, then start a program to target different areas, but in the beginning just try to have fun or challenge yourself to keep it interesting. |

ive been a member of a nunber of gyms and ive never known anyone to look down their noses at anyone no matter what size they are, the gyms I attend no one has nothing but respect for one another as we are all their trying to self improve ourselfs and get fitter and healthier.
I'm sorry your gym made you feel like that, maybe try a different gym? |
