A story has been run in a national paper showing a picture of a Scotland fan supporting Uruguay at football last night boldly waving a Scottish flag.

One fan.

Why run such a lame story trying to portray all of Scotland as anti English?

I'm a Welsh man and I supported England, so why does the media decide that's a story worth reporting on ? It seems they feel the need to influence and comment as opposed to report facts which is what I thought was the purpose of a newspaper?

I think it's because they need a 'different' angle to the usual of either slating England or crap wordplay. What paper was it? They're near enough all terrible to be fair!

I'm a Welshman who was supporting England too, as I would for any of the home nations. Gonna have to adopt a new nation now!

Need to know basis

The media no longer report news, they try to make news!!! By running this story they tried to hide their incompetence, lack of intelligence and total incapability to be neutral, which is what News should be.

That story would have gone un-noticed by most people on here.

I'm sure it would have gone unnoticed and I agree with your sentiments hence I don't normally purchase papers.

Are the general public perceived to be so insular these days though, that papers feel the need to offer them an opinion or influence them onto being an ugly lynch mob in some case.

I seen it during the game and couldnt give a toss. If scotland dont choose to support england during the WC thats up to them, no hard feelings. My dads scottish im english and id probably support anyone but scotland if it was the other way round just as banter, no anti scotland.

Journalism is sensationalism

The fact is this is not uncommon which is very sad, I have been on holiday abroad on several occasions during either world cups or Euro championsips and when England are playing Ive sat in many bars where the Welsh, Irish and Scots were supporting the opponents.

I find this sad and annoying, I consider myself British and if any of the home nations are playing I will always try to find their bars and give my support, I want them to win as much as I want England to win, the only time this differs is when England are playing one of them, then of course I support England.

It would be nice if we could stick together as I believe we are a great nation united.

Rousing speech over lol

Ask yourself was there a solitary one or more than one who knows but why does it matter and who really cares.

Not dissing your opinion but I never understand this. Do you always support a European team against a South American because we're European ?

No My loyalties lie with Britain, and to be honest its a fickle question, if I were to use your reasoning, we are a western society would I only support western teams against eastern teams, I am a Christian, would I only support Christian teams over Muslim teams...NO

We have only been Europeans for a few decades, we are joined as great Britain with Wales Ireland and Scotland I will always support the home nations.

True but at least they saved the ignominy of coming home early.

Ahh well looks like we are out the world cup now anyway, very slim chance of us still qualifying but can't see it happening myself. Time for the English to support Andy Murray at Wimbledon when it starts on monday. Andy Murray said he did'nt like it when Alex Salmond unfolded the Scottish flag behind David Cameron when he won Wimbledon. Cheap political point from Alex Salmond.

Eh ? We have only been in the EU for a few decades but we've been part of Europe for billions of years.

And I still don't understand your reasoning. But it won't keep me awake at night.

For some papers, every day is a slow news day.

Again quite a non sensicle reasoning we have been part of the whole world since creation using your rationale im now supposed to support any teams in the world am I lol.

I think the original clue would of been The "Great Britain" when I mentioned british teams, how many other parts of Europe apart from Jersey, Guernsey and Gibralter are part of Great Britain.

You may not lose any sleep but you could of saved wasted useless comments if youd read my statement more concisely.

But Its sunny I am happy and hope you have a great day and weeken ahead . Have fun
