Suppose they are there to allow a tentative approach, but the way I look at it, if people are too shy to write and say "hi", then will they be shy and "hold back" when it comes down to playtime? |

i always thought winks are for saying ...nice profile and if you wink back ,"yep i am interested lets chat"
..its a sort of notice me-us ,as we are interested.
Got no thoughts either way on them really, they are harmless. |

if you have a look in the swinging forum there is a huge conversation going on about this at the moment.......
as for winks... i am in the minority as it appears... I think they are lazy and show no effort, all it says to me is that you managed to hit a button.....
harsh but i'd rather someone send me a reply, i want to see some personality in what they write....
the comparison i would use would be that if you were in a club you wouldn't just wink at everyone all night, you'd actually go up to people at talk and see what they are like......... |

So why would I get my head bitten off then during an old posted item then saying my winks are offensive !
I accept you would go around a club constantly winking, folks would think your off your trolly but I'm in the section saying it's showing a polite interest without going over the top yeh. |

Some people do find them offensive........I can think of many more things to get offended about though, you don't even have to look at them if you don't want to |

now you can mass delete winks its not so bad. It was infuriating though in the past when you had to do them individually. Admin got that change 100% right. |

accept that some people would rather that if you have an interest in someone that you send them a mail and say something rather than a wink.... some for a friends invite.....
I want to talk to people first...... thats just me... |

Winks are great, and underrated, although we rarely send any.
profiles aren't always honest, example.. 'not seeking males', then most of their verifications are from males, so, a wink in this case is better than a message, nobody feels they have to reply or wait for a reply from a wink.
I know some say it's lazy, but I don;t get that at all. I imagine people wink to draw attention to their profile, a little way to say they like what they see now check mine, if you receive a wink then simply wink back if interested, it puts the game back n their hands, and from there they can send the first message.

Some people will wink at maybe 5 or 6 people a day and in essence that's not too bad. BUT some will wink at everyone they visit which is easy as it takes little effort and they think a big net will improve their chances. If you have a couple of winks you will look at them. If you have loads you just don't bother. Any means of contact is ok as long as its not abused. |

I agree but some folks would bite your head off if you were to just walk up and start talking to them with out an introduction so sometimes you just couldnt win would you.
If you remember my previous post in which I got slated for saying my winks were a cheeky way of saying I caught you looking at me yeh, so why would I be accused of whinging or wyning then just because I siad it wasnt fair that we as singles coud'nt look at couples who wernt interested in singles and blocking them only for them to be alloud open access to all ! |

On here I think winks are a lazy way of contacting people, the reason being, anyone can send messages to anyone else on this site (unless blocked then why bother trying to send a wink??) on other (pay) sites members who dont pay (have basic membership) they cant send messages so winks there are a good way of saying "I am new and interested".
I often ignore winks cos if you really wanted to meet me you would send a message, but when I was on other sites with different levels of membership if a basic (and new) member winked I would answer.
I also dont think I have ever send a wink in all my time here cos I would rather send a message, it will tell you about me better than just clicking a button

"Winks are very useful, they are a great 'intro'....If someone winks me then I have the option of returning a wink if I am curious about maybe receiving a message."

"Hi Shona, I'm sorry but WHY treat them differently just on the ability to pay ! Surely it's the same difference yeh ? All they're doing is making contact whether they subscibe or not yeh ? "
The sites I mean are the ones you cant send a first message to anyone unless you pay the sometimes over rated over inflated prices. You can however send a reply on the sites I am thinking off.
Another site I was on (a few years ago so maybe the owner has changed the site Im not sure) charged a lot of money for membership to men (a lot more than couples and women) I rarely meet anyone other than men so on that site it made sense that men who were new winked and I would send a message along the lines of a first message I would have sent to them anyway with a little bit tagged on the bottom saying thanks for the wink.
On this site it doesnt matter if you are a site supporter or not you can message so why send a wink?? Why not just send a message??
It seems a bit silly to me to send a wink and wait to see if the person (or people) realise its there (took me a couple weeks to notice it was there) and maybe send one back or send a message, if you send a message its more likely to be seen (the thingy at the top of the page saying you have X unread) so to me it is faster and more straight forward to just send a message and take it from there rather than send winks back and forward.
But then again everyone uses this site differently so whatever works for others works, what works for me is never the rule but often the exception that proves the rule

Shona hi. My orriginal thread was that I thought that folks who had blocked single blokes were able to look at singles but I couldnt view them yeh. I like to send a wink just to say that I'd seen them looking but couldnt when blocked. A couple of replies then bit my head of for sending winks cos 1 thought I was taking the piss and the other said they were offensive hence the reason why I asked of everyone what winks are for yeh.
I take on board what you say but would say that I've sent messages and they too have been returned saying they too were offensive, can't win luv. |
