I didn't breastfeed any of mine and if anything they seem healthier than some who have been. Tried it with the first, found it to be agony, plus no-one can help you with it, so no thank you. Bottles everytime for me (and to anyone who asks for my advise)

i breast fed one and not the other, no difference, in my children

Research has shown it is only really beneficial for breast milk for the first few days that really benefits, after that it is the bonding process and economical benefits.

I breastfed all three of my kids till they were about a year old.

My daughter also went on to breastfeed her son and she was the only one in her maternity hospital who did so, it's beneficial to mother and child but still carries a social stigma with many.

Mrs M tried with our first born, but he wasnt able to attach for some reason, she does plan to breast feed the new arrival though and is determined to get it to work this time.

I did but what I did'nt like was how the midwives at ante natal classes made the ones that did'nt want to feel like they wer'nt worthy of being mothers

My friends response to this was " I don't care it reminds me of cows udders and it makes me feel sick!"

Siren breastfed our littlun but had trouble getting him to attach at first (I still have very vivid memories of going to the antenatal unit for a brreast pump and them asking where my wife was, to which I replied, "She's sobbing her heart out in the bath." They didn't charge me for the breast pump AND gave me a dozen bottles of formula to take with me lol).

She got him to feed ok in the end and really enjoyed the whole experience until his teeth came and he bit her, and that's when she stopped.

I carried on for quite some time afterwards though - it's very horny taking breast milk from your wife!!

I have fantasies about 'milking' a woman with a machine, just like a dairy cow. Siren wasn't too reciprocal to it so it's still a fantasy, alas.

Kate breast fed both our boys. Not sure if it really made much difference health wise though. They are both strapping lads now, both very sporty, but both suffered from usual childhood ailments like infant asthma for example.

I don't really think it makes a lot of difference these days, with modern nutrition information and quality health care.

Kate breast fed them for about 18months, but I'm still on the tit now, and I'm 53yrs young

I have heard this loads women made to feel like they are bad mothers cos they CHOOSE to feed the baby how they want!!

However I had the opposite problem.

I was 18 when I had my eldest and I wanted to breastfeed. When asked how I intended to feed my child I said breast to be asked (in a rather aggressive way) what made me think breast was best - I hadnt said anything about what was best, but thought it was MY choice how I fed my baby.

Same thing happened when I had my youngest when I was in my 20's, I had discussed with Steven how we were going to feed shorty and he agreed since he was working and I was at home it was my choice to breastfeed if I wanted to but if I was could I express some so he could still feed shorty - which I did and he took his turn of feeding her when he was at home. That caused all sorts of new problems according to my health visitor cos shorty "would get nipple confusuion" erm no she knew my smell from Stevens so knew when she was getting my breast and when she was getting a bottle from Daddy.

But the midwife in the hospital kept bringing bottles and asking how many ounces she had drank?!?!?! Last time I looked my boobs werent see-thru so I couldnt say exactly how much she had taken but she was gaining weight so was getting enough at that time.

By the time both my daughters were 2 months old they werent getting enough and I put them on the bottle cos my milk wasnt giving them what they needed. AND it hurt like hell for me cracked nipples and leaking all over the place everytime she cried was no fun

I would say to any women asking my advice that its their body so their choice how they feed any or all children they have cos no 2 women are the same what worked (and hurt like hell) for me may not be right (or hurt at all) for them.

I was 18 when i had my eldest tried to breast feed him,but just couldnt do it and decided to bottle feed him, even though he was happier on the bottle midwives and health visitors made me feel like a failure,so it put me of trying to breastfeed with my middle child, when i had my 3rd child i decided as he would be my last i would try breast feeding him and we both loved it,i fed him for 18months all 3 have been healthy happy children x

i did my first born, it was a long hard process and so very pinful, but i resolved to perservere and manged it for three months.

my second was a hungry baby, downing 8oz from birth instead fo the usual 2oz so it was impossible osatisfy.

there is a marked difference in my mind, my first ever catches and virus, my second gets them all!

maidstone

i fed my first until i had to go back to work at 4 months, but my second hated it and I gave up at 3 months as he was losing weight. He's went on to be diagnosed with autism so I dont know if even at that early age he didnt like the closeness or if he'd have not enjoyed it with or without the autism.

I breast fed my first for 18 months and loved it but she suffered when I was away as she wouldn't eat anything else. She was also very gentle on my breasts.

My second daughter used to bite and giggled when I said ouch so knocked that on the head after six months.

My third was born prematurely and couldn't suck so used a breast pump. Sadly he died at nine weeks and my breasts were so engorged, haven't felt pain like it.

My fourth child I couldn't bond with, thought she was going to die. My milk didn't come in so straight onto SMA.

None of them have had any illness bar the odd cold.

Tried to feed my eldest, she wouldnt latch on and only had enough to keep a fly alive, got mastitis so swopped to the bottle. Second child I was determined to succeed and he was very hungry and was a huge success. Third and fourth were twins and the two older ones were under four. Tried to feed them for first 24 hours but they were six weeks premature and I would have been unable to do anything but feed them one afterthe other for 24 hours. Long and short of it, I am very close to all of them and they are all healthy. At end of the day you do what feels right for you and it will be the right thing.

Tried and tested on all my kids and found it to be beneficial in the emotional bond as much as the well-documented nutritional benefits. It seems that society is, in some areas, still not ready for mums feeding in public although it is perfectly acceptable to sunbathe topless. Bizarre lol

To be perfectly honest - I don' t believe that millions on children brought up on formula are necessarily disadvantaged. It is sometimes about a compromise and some mums are just not as comfortable with breast feeding for one reason or another and they should not be made to feel bad over it IMHO

i tried with my son but my boobs were to big and so was to difficult wish I could have though it meant to feel lovely when you bond through breast feeding though he's 11 now and we're very close so doesnt seem to have hindered our bond
