No ruder than the Barbara Taylor Bradford and Jilly Cooper novels I used to sneak off my Mum's shelf when I was younger, really. The writing is awful so that may have turned me off to be fair though. |

"One of my workmates recommended that I google for Nancy Friday.
Makes 50 shades look very tame indeed!"
If people are honest and can stop pissing themselves laughing at how badly written it is....then Roald Dahl could make 50 shades seem tame....drivel! |

"Better off watching the secretary
I write better stories than that"
The Secretary is an excellent film!
I think most of us could write stories in a better style than 50 Shades tbh. Some of the stories on here are pretty good! (I've even got my own on the go - writing filth is a pleasant way to pass the time ) |

Good question. I was given a copy, started reading and soon realised it's not very well written but wanted to find out why the lead character was like he was. I,like some other women I have spoken to, skipped the sexual scenes and skim read to find out. Having read the first book I had to follow the story and read the second book. I will admit to it being hard going but, again I wanted to find out what happened. I picked up the third and final book, read a few pages, then threw it in a cupboard. I couldn't torture myself any longer and didn't give a monkeys what happened. I got so sick of reading about her inner bloody goddess I couldn't carry on. I will never read them a second time. In fact,I could probably write better sex scenes than her if I put my mind to it |

Xxx" You did better than me, I didnt get past the title. Id be so disappointed if anyone spent their money on it as a gift for me - but I think they would know better. |

Well unless you are already a multi-millionaire do so #I would. Its not my sort of book but I freely admit I haven't read it so can't make a full judgement but sales and popularity point towards people liking it. Hard work well we all persist with the forums and if being honest it can't be worse than some of the tales people perpetuate on here. |

To the average woman who has had no experience of the world of being tied up and spanked it's obviously going to be an erotic read...to those that have had experience of the world of being tied up and spanked and have experienced thing sexually that the average suburban woman hasn't it's going to be an average read...I found it enjoyable I thought the ending was very predictable..however that book made the author very rich and it made a few babies.... |

I'm yet to read '50 Shades of Grey', but from all accounts, it's not that good. I've just finished this book which was quite an eye opener, well written and probably more shocking: 'In Spades' by Kate Jessica Rousseau and Kate Rousseau http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spades-Mother-Daughter-Recount-Journeys-ebook/dp/B00BD5ENW2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1402983710&sr=8-1&keywords=in+spades

My Mrs enjoyed the trilogy.
Certainly unlocked her submissive kinky side, which I will be eternally grateful to the author for!
I haven't read it myself so can't comment for the content

I wouldn't do it for the money. It would be for the love of writing. Have a read of it and see what you think. I don't read the stories on here so I can't make a comparison |

This is one good thing (or possibly bad) that came from these books. Women became a little more adventurous in bed. Don't know if it was short lived though and I do know some men who weren't happy with that |

If that book has opened people's mind sexually and maybe even helped with people's sex life where before it was lacking then that can only be a good thing..We have to consider not everyone is so open to sex as we are on here. The book I think paved a way from women and men to consider it's ok to have kinks in the bedroom. |

I love how everyone else can write a better book yet none have lol
Personally I read all three because I'm weird and once I start a series of books I have to read them. They weren't as they promised....the bdsm took a major step back very quickly in favour of the love story. I think she was sponsored by Durex given the amount of times she said they were using one in the books lol
As cheeky has said, they opened peoples mind to different kinds of sex, maybe saved a few marriages, maybe ended a few too but they also got the nation talking about books instead of shit reality TV shows as well.
Not a bad thing in my eyes. |

The problem though, as I see it, is that is has also opened people up to abuse by sexual predators and wannabe doms.
I cringe every time I see a profile name that refers to the book or see the phrase 'kinkyfuckery' in someone's profile.
If it has opened there mind and made them do a bit of research then that's great but if it leaves them open to a bad experience then not so. |

I forced myself to read half of the first book, waiting for the interesting stuff to kick in... It never did and I got extremely bored and gave it back to the person I borrowed it from.
As far as I can remember, the book could've been shortened to just a few lines, it was that repetitive:
"I bit my bottom lip.
Stop biting your bottom lip, I want to bite that bottom lip.
Holy Fuck!
The End".

Didn't anyone come away from the book thinking it was a bit "rapey"? Literary criticisms aside, there was a distinct lack of consent in the first book, in several scenes.
I'm reading "The Story of O". The original prototype for 50 Shades 'a Shite.
Nikki Gemmell is a better author for that kind of thing and the women in the books are actually consenting.
I might get to The Masters and Johnson biography then, and then that Topic of Cancer:Capricorn dude. |

See, I found the story of O boring and quite hard to read. Everyone seems to suggest it's THE book to read for anyone considering the lifestyle yet I found it rubbish!
She gets sent to a school for submissive women, essentially gets raped over and.over, has her anus cut to make anal sex easier, her lover gives her away to a man she doesn't like, has holes punched through her labia so that it can be closed shut....a lot worse than 50 shades |

It's bad, for people that have never read erotica I guess it was quite shocking and an eye opener, but for the rest of us.... I think it was quite tame.
Straight written for the vanilla crowd.

It's a load of shite. A rrewriting of 9 1/2 weeks. And the pretence in the he is only kinky fucker he is because he was abused as a child implies he is damaged. |

I have to say my biggest issue with the books o's the implication that he turned to BDSM after having a traumatic childhood and an.underage relationship with a friend of the family plus the fact that the female lead could 'fix him' by showing him true love.
The amount of times I have been asked if I have been abused as a child because I like a bit of BDSM play is quite saddening. |

I've only read the first few chapters. Extreme is fine; lack of consent isn't. Looks like I might be slinging this book early too |

I actually got bored with the sex scenes and found it all a bit tame. Since it's been out I've had so many guys claiming to be Mr Grey contact me.
But if your a non swinger who's looking for a bit of excitement I'm sure it's a good way to get some judging by the millions the author has made and the sales of bondage items ann summers has made on the back of it. Personally I'd rather experience fun than read about it |

I remember finding an AMAZING BDSM/Dom/sub book years ago. - Very graphic, quite extreme and very raunchy but I've never been able to find it since.
I'm sure it was called "Constance" but I can't remember the author.
