Does anyone know any reliable, reasonable carpet/flooring fitters in the Sheffield area?
I had a mini flood and need to take up my hall carpet and could use some advice.
I'm thinking it might be best to replace with hard flooring, possibly lino tiles but how easy are they to fit? Can I do it? Do I need any specialist tools?
If I opt for laminate how well does it hold up against cat claws? And what if I get another flood?
(yes I know I need plumbing help to make sure it doesn't happen again but I know one of those! )
Off to rip up carpet that smells of mildew, a joyous way to spend a Sunday afternoon! |

Hi. Can't message you but just wanted to say, if you're claiming on insurance, don't throw away your old carpet just yet. We did that once and the insurance company wouldn't pay out. They wanted to see the stinky old carpet |

Tbh I don't think it's worth claiming cos it's not a big area. |

Hi vinyl floor tiles are easy to fit and if another flood happens they should hold back the majority of water
They are easy to replace just warm the damaged ones and re stick new
The only drawback being you will need to lay them on top of plywood not floorboards

Lol they're fine.
And the stinky carpet is now in the bin so hopefully my house will start to smell better again. |

I was thinking about those but had no idea what I need to do to prep the area.
Guess I'd need some kind of power tool to cut the ply.
Looks like I might need to get a man in! |

It's easy you need the following
A piece of 6mm plywood enough for the area
Screw plywood down with size 6 x25 mm screws
Then pva the plywood to seal it
Then apply flooring glue wait untill tacky then lay vinyl tiles
If you can wait untill swingfields I will bring you the ply glue & adhesive just let me know the area m2 so all you need is the vinyl tiles |
