Well, seeing as the site is full with people from different backgrounds, races and genders (well, derr). Just wondering how many of us are bilingual.

What languages do we all speak? And if we were to learn a language. Which would it be?

I speak 4 modern languages fluently

Understand-ish 1 other

Learning-ish 1 other

And Latin and Ancien grec if you count that.

I would recommend learning French, not because I am French lol but most people have learnt French at school. Even if they don't think so... it's there... somewhere

English, Spanish and French with poor Latin due to low use. It is exciting to speak with others in their language. Would like to learn more German and Portuguese, but dont find the pronunctiation that easy.

English, OK French and German would come back to me quite quickly if I started speaking it again. I know enough Italian to get by (especially musically) and can read and listen to Old English but not speak it.

I wish I'd learnt Spanish or Russian. Or had the chance to study Latin. Languages and etymology fascinate me.

Years ago I considered learning sign language as I thought it would be standardised so useful anywhere on the planet until I discovered that even that is different in every country.

Every county too. Just like spoken English bsl has regional variations on signs which resulted in my tutor asking to fuck someone instead of meet once upon a time. That's his story anyway lol

I doubt I'll ever be fluent in any language...heck I don't really understand English grammar properly lol But, having said that, I've had a lot of fun decimating Italian, Mandarin, and Spanish... and can generally make friends and chat about stuff awfully in those languages. I would try the same with French but I'd just end up getting castrated for linguistic vandalism lol
