It is in the eye of the beholder. Some people who are quite trim call themselves curvy because they may have large breasts. Some people who are just plain fat use curvy because quite understandably they do not want to describe themselves as fat. The best way to judge someone's size and any attractiveness therein is with your eyes. Not the words they choose to describe themselves by. I have met some rake like people who complain they are too fat and some rather copious people who do not see themselves as anything other than ultra slinky and chic. |

That's refreshing. Lots of blokes like fat women. It's not fooling anyone when people pretend they're something they're not, as someone said earlier, the pics will tell the real story. |

I just wish there was a "fat" option when setting up a profile. I'm not keen on euphemisms. Yeah, I'm fat - but I have enough body confidence to know that fat isn't the only think I have to offer.
Not to your taste? Then walk on by - but by having the option to tell it like it is, it might mean I don't have to sift through so many messages telling me I'm disgusting/revolting, etc., etc.
(Ta for the opinion: I know *just* the place you can put it...) |

Not everyone is as forthright as you are it seems. Like you I would just describe myself as I am as it does not bother me either way. Some people have pride and thus need euphemisms to maintain that pride. That is their perogative. |

I dunno maybe its the way I have been brought up but I think to me calling someone fat is rude, curvy bbw ect sure there names that come with a bit of sexy , but fat and the way its been put across by the poster well it just come across like curvy is ok but well when your fat you are just revolting and as someone who has struggled with her weight thro out the years I personally find it offensive |

Stop dieting. It makes you gain weight. Eat plenty healthy food and do plenty exercise is the ONLY way to lose weight healthily and for it to stay off. Dieting makes your body panic and absorb as much energy as possible. |

I think it depends on the person, iv seen some girls that look large at 10, and some others that look trim at 10 -12 too. So it's hard to say.
But generally speaking fat girls hide themselves behind this 'curvy' mask, Kelly brook is curvy. Dawn French isn't |

What is curvy anyway, it's a pretty non descriptive term. A double decker bus has curves but I wouldn't describe it as curvy. Things should be clearer |

If someone wants to describe themselves a certain way, you don't have to agree but they are doing no harm to anyone if the pics are on show for all to see.
I am not sure why the obsession with where the line is drawn.....if you think people are fat rather than curvy and you don't like fat people then avoiding is easily done.

My sister was a size 10 back in 2007. A year later after giving birth to a 12lb baby her size went to 18-20. She started eating healthily and went to the gym 4 times a week. That was 2 years ago. She's now a size 10-12, skinnier than me! It took her a year to get down to the size she is today! Still goes to the gym |

Don't diet!!! I have five to six meals a day (I have picks of my body on our profile) I have had three children in the past six years, I exorcise a few times a week, if you want to lose weight you have to work for it and the only person that stops you is YOU! Don't make excuse's ie. time, dont know how. every one reading this can use the Internet it is full of workouts you can do at home with no cost. And as for being called skinny that's as bad as being called fat! Rant over..... |

Curvy becomes fat when you insist on labels. Just look at someone, when you know their personality and decide if you like them- no labels needed at all. All definitions are subjective, we all differ and people deserve better than being shoe horned into a division. |

I'm fat. I am not putting myself down saying this, as I get told for describing myself as fat. I am also curvy. I don't have a waist as such but there is an indentation below the bust and I can use it to fake a waist.
Why don't we talk about fat men with skinny legs now? |

Rarely u see the woman that isnt curvy, slim and fat can be curvy.
I go to a party called 'curvy club' in London which is as popular as any organised party. It is a party for larger ladies and there admirers.it is the southeast version of chams bbw nights.they havent called it fat club as curvy is a nicer way to describe it.
if fab had a option for fat in its description not many ladys would use it, why should they we have a option for slim, they dont like being called skinny and thats not nice description either., then the forums would moan about people not doing proper descriptions.i wouldnt ever im large and here to attract my choice of meets why should I describe myself as fat I know I am and people see I am. There are plenty people I see athletic description and I wouldn't say Some are but my own opinion.the op asked a question about when curvy becomes fat, simple answer is in your own eye's, if you dont like walk past, if you do like then start chatting to them its not hard. |

"Tip: if you can pinch lots from your waist its not slim lol."
Ah but there is an issue with that.
I'm a size 12 and going down to a 10 for some clothes but was a size 20 before so I do have a little extra flesh that if it was taken away would make me a size 10 easily. Now in your tip I would be fat. But I'm not.
Fat to me is when you know yourself you are. I knew I was fat. I just hid it very well with the right clothes and wearing really high heels to make me look taller than I was. |

Why have the majority of derogatory answers been aimed towards females? Men get fat as well

Cos men don't usually describe themselves as curvy too - but they do get fat. Men's option for curvy should be stocky. Admin please change men's curvy to stocky if possible. |

When it's unattractive to the individual. Fat is an insult, curvy is a compliment. I like a full figured women, I even like girls whom some refer to as fat. To me it's curvy, I'm not keen on obese bodies and to me that's fat. Everyone will have their own view on what's fat and what's simply curvy |

I describe myself as three spheres: boobs, tummy and bum. There's a bit of in but it is still a big, fat sphere. It's just a teensy bit less big, fat sphere than the boob sphere.

There are very very few threads which have not been covered in some way before. Therefore by the logic of those who moan, we should close the forum to new threads and simply search the old ones.

You can be both too. I consider myself both. I dont like the term fat as everyone knows it has a bad connotation so honestly I would never pick that as a discriptive label in a profile meant to attract. If we must have labels then I prefer chubby, bbw, voluptuous, fluffy anything but fat lol. But one persons fat is another persons curvy. Been told I wasnt fat but in my eyes im chubby at the very least. It doesnt bother me at all what other peoples definition is though. Those who like and appreciate what they see will hopefully tell me |

And yet you didn't feel the need to say this to anyone else who pointed out that this subject has been done to death or that it's boring, only to me. How interesting...
No is a perfectly reasonable response to an instruction to discuss something.
The whole 'if you don't agree with something, don't post' is bollocks because the point of a discussion is that people have various views. Nobody, not even you, can decree only people who agree with a thread on it can post.
It, as has been pointed out, has been done to death. Anyone with half a brain will know that there are a range of opinions without having to ask. So my answer, which is absolutely relevant to the OP is still no, I won't discuss it because it's boring.
I wouldn't have said any more than that without your response to me. So now there are 5 posts "clogging up the thread" (in your opinion) rather than just one (which did answer the OP, albeit in a way you don't like, which is tough). Fabulous achievement, well done. |

I would consider myself fat as I'm carrying more weight than I'm comfortable with at a size 14/16. Some guys, who may prefer a more slender frame on a woman, would agree.
Others, however, have said I'm not. Strangely enough, I've never been called curvy. |

"It is in the eye of the beholder.
That's very diplomatic ..... I'm a size 22 and am fat no ifs or buts about it my profile says large coz I wouldn't describe myself as fabulous as the next size up is x x x
Not everyone is as forthright as you are it seems. Like you I would just describe myself as I am as it does not bother me either way. Some people have pride and thus need euphemisms to maintain that pride. That is their perogative.
I don't like being fat....... I'm dieting and training mega hard to lose it but it's easier to gain than lose and now with weight coming off I've got lots of Hangy bits.... Who knows maybes when I reach my goal someone might have sympathy and contribute towards nips and tucks lol x x x x
Stop dieting. It makes you gain weight. Eat plenty healthy food and do plenty exercise is the ONLY way to lose weight healthily and for it to stay off. Dieting makes your body panic and absorb as much energy as possible.
Amen!
I don't follow any mad diets I have 3 meals a day with correct portions and swim an gym 4-5 times a week I realized the only way to move it is exercise and for all I don't feel relaxed I the gym I'm starting to see results which pushes me harder.... Thank you for advice
Exercise ftw. So many people just have no time to do exercise it seems but lots of time to think up excuses. Although I can vouch that at times motivation can be difficult.
Still goes to the gym"
Bravo to your sister she must be so proud of herself x x x.
I've lost 46lbs since January and it's bloody hard work.... I personally feel the only way to move it is excercising x x x |

Check by the NHS bmi. It's doubtful unless you're 3 ft.
Obviously athletes and especially body builders are exempt due to muscle mass as opposed to excess fat. |

It depends on intent. If the intent is to insult because of a judgemental attitude, then yes, it is rude. If it is merely information eg from a Doctor it is not, but it can still wound if the word is normally 'loaded'. |

Skinny you can usually associate with a size. But curvy is to do with body shape so you could be skinny with curves or thicker with curves. Fatness is to do with how much body fat you have.
So skinny I'd think UK sizes 6-8 or 10 if you are tall.
Curvy is when you have a waist/hip ratio of around 0.65-0.75.
Fat is when you have 30%+ body fat.
But generally if you want to know what UK sizes are small, medium and large then according to retailers:
4-6 = extra small
8-10 = small
12-14 = medium
16-18 = large
20-22 = extra large

Fat is when you have 30%+ body fat.
But generally if you want to know what UK sizes are small, medium and large then according to retailers:
4-6 = extra small
8-10 = small
12-14 = medium
16-18 = large
20-22 = extra large
"
That may be true, but the average dress size in the UK is a 16. Go to France if you like slender women-their average dress size is a 10. |

"Skinny you can usually associate with a size. But curvy is to do with body shape so you could be skinny with curves or thicker with curves. Fatness is to do with how much body fat you have.

"Stating a fat person is fat isn't rude.
I don't think I am fat tho and I feel it would be rude if the person is not comfortable with that adjective
Didn't say you were, I've never met you.
It's not rude if it's a fact."
True, however there are much less offensive ways of stating it. Overweight for example. Factual but less of a loaded term. |

If it's a description that bothers you do something about it.
If it isn't then there's no need to be offended.
I didn't know there was such a difference between the UK and France re. dress sizes - that's really shocking |

I have a friend who suffered from anorexia and she is offended when people call her skinny. I try to avoid calling people skinny or fat, preferring to use the terms slender, very slim, overweight or carrying some extra weight.
I wonder what the average clothes size is in the US for women? Yes, the UK is an overweight nation, but some of the USAs supersizers must bring their average up?! |

Kind of hard to describe an anorexic as anything other than skinny.
As I said further up I agree there's a distinction between the intent as an insult and as a description - but in these types of discussions the former is very much fuelled by the defensive comments about the subject. Not by all - sometimes people are quite chilled/funny/honest about it and it can be fun instead of unpleasant. |

There are plenty of places that call a 14 large. Maybe those clothes are made in France |

"I just wish there was a "fat" option when setting up a profile.
(Ta for the opinion: I know *just* the place you can put it...) "
I to am fat! And hate the polite terms ie cuddly big etc etc call a spade a spade but sadly no option |

I have a huge ass and boobs but a small waist hence why I describe myself as curvy. I used to be 6 stone and described by my peers as "fat" as nobody could see beyond my massive tits, especially as I'm so small! Looking down on me I must have just looked like a head on top of boobs!! Nobody bothered to look I had a tiny frame underneath them lol |

Wow, I wasn't expecting this many responses. Glad I sparked off a discussion, even though it's apparently been 'done to death.'
My opinion - and I think some others have said similar stuff - women of all sizes can be curvy, to me that means the shape goes in and out in the right places. J-Lo is curvy. She definitely ain't fat.
My issue is with fat people using other terms like 'curvy' because they find the word 'fat' offensive. Why would you find it offensive? Because it's true? And being fat is unhealthy too. Maybe if we weren't so worried about offending people, we wouldn't be catching up to America in the diabetes and obesity stakes.
If you like fat people, that's fine, each to their own. Same with skinny people. I don't personally find either to be attractive. Somewhere in the middle for me.
And if you're happy with being fat, really happy with it, then that's fine too. I just haven't met many people that are. Or many people of any size that are happy with how they look. Guess that's the society we live in. |

I am by no means considered fat but I'd like to point out that you can be healthy and overweight as you can be slim and unhealthy. Yet people that are small are never judged on there health. My sister always was severely overweight and ate only dry crackers and apples and took laxitives and made herself sick to get to 9 stone. Everyone commended her for being so healthy! OP do you consider this healthy just coz she was then slimmer? |

I'm fitter now than when I was a 10/12 and weighed 8 stone.
You can't judge a book by it's cover.

People don't like to be reminded they are fat as it promps them do try to do something about it and thats pretty hard for some. Its far easier to eat what you like use the curvy tag and feel accepted as they are. |

Have you ever seen the programme supersize vs super skinny? The slimmer people are just as unhealthy and in some cases more so. They have malnutrition, hair / teeth loss, organ failure etc. Slim does not = healthy.
PS. Luckily I'm slim, beautiful and healthy lol xx |

If that were true there would never have been concerns about eating disorders.
Your sister's method doesn't sound too bright but whether she was healthier after is impossible for anybody to judge on here.
What can't be considered healthy is to eat too much and do too little. |

"I have recently gone from a size 8 to a 12, reasons beyond my control. I believe in my head this isn't fat but do feel disgusting. However, anyone that's met or seen pics of me seem to think I look nice, but the other day I received a random message from some guy calling me obese (not seen pics BTW only one I had public of my very ample breasts). Am I wrong is 12 now obese?!? "
Do you really care what he said? You don't know him. Ignore it. x |
