"But the point of new age medicine is that the practioners believe the bollocks they spout. They tell their 'patients' not to give up the conventional treatment (that hasnt yet worked), then claim that there 0.000001 Molar solution of daffodil pollen has cured them. If they were so convinced of the power of their crystals, chakras and deities then they could test their treatments properly. I would rather a sick person recieved a placebo from a doctor who can at least moniter their health, than Gillian McKieth telling them to eat twigs and not to worry about the hair and nail loss, its just their body detoxing and ridding itself of negative energy. These fuckwits are dangerous."
Point is the practitioners have to believe it in order to sell it, yes there are dangerous extremes, as in anything, but as long as the patient is told not to quit conventional medicine, and also to tell the doctor that they are receiving alternative treatment as well to allow safeguards then what is the harm?
Personally I really do not believe in homoeopathy, but the dose of "active ingredient" is so small it does no harm and if it makes the person feel they are fixing themselves then it may do some good. |

Many alternative medical procedures have become mainstream medical practices, herbalism gave rise to 90% of the current medical knowledge, acupuncture is quite widely accepted as beneficial, but hard to learn, and Chakras do exist, as bundles of nerve endings, so manipulation it theoretically viable.
Taking toxic material e.g. large quantities of carrots (vitamin A overdose) is not so different to chemotherapy, so to rule out all alternative medicine is as short sighted as it would be to rule out conventional medicine (which can also be harmful to your health) |
