So it appears plans are afoot to allow courts to quadruple the fines given to motorists who amongst other things i.e. speed, drive without insurance, use mobile phones while driving. etc...
Measure which could potentially raise some fines from £1000 to £4000....

"Does this only apply to British road users ? Does it include our continental cousins? "
I don't know.....
But apparently the same rate of increase is also being proposed for fines given for d*unk and disorderly behaviour... ![](/icons/s/2/cute.gif) |

Up to £10,000 for speeding on the motorway was reported. They say it's to give the courts more powers and won't be in exchange for prison sentences. I suppose it will depend on how the offence was committed and their previous, on whether they be given the maximum.

One of the rises is for not wearing a crash helmet. I cannot ever remember seeing a motorcyclist without one.
Using your mobile phone in the car... up to £4k fine. I am sure there are more than would care to admit it do this. |

Having been in various courts with work and observed all sorts of judgments the amount of things taken into consideration is really wide and the magistrates or judges do seem to try to strike a balance.
