I'm shocked to hear this, Young Ones and Bottom are my two all time favourite comedies, his wild, crazy take on the genre was always amazing to watch.
Have a good journey Rik x |

I met him many years ago in Harrods, sat at the same table with me. Had a fascinating conversation and he told me he was working on something new. Not long after Alan B'astard was created.
RIP Rik, such a shock and a great loss |

'Well, at least we got the duck'
'The duck?'
'Yeah! It floats in the bath!'
'But why?'
'...it's hollow?'
'Tch, I mean WHY the duck?'
'It came free with the telly!'
'Eddie everything came free with the telly we were looting! Why didn't you just get a free TELLY with the telly!?'
'BECAUSE IT'D SINK IN THE BATH!'

Sad news indeed ...... his family and loved ones must be devastated....
My abiding memories of him will always be his truly amazing appearances as a Jackanory presenter......
I seem to remember he once cheated death following a tragic quad bike accident ,,,,

I shall break my grief tourism ban for this man. Caused me to laugh sooo many times from childhood til now. Including his recent stint as Greg Davies dad in Man Down.
See ya Prik. |

Bloody hell. Just read this here, didn't know.
Great character and hilarious actor, made for comedy. Loved his characters all through my life, Rik(with a silent P), Alan B'stard and Lord Flash to name a few.
RIP Rik |

I remeber Kevin Turvey too, loved it, " Turvey's Ear" in a strong west midlands accent.
He was always funny and could "lech" with best of em! B'Stard was brilliant.
I hope his spirit is as anarchic as his living self. |

The contribution he made to British Comedy will ensure his memory will live on. Blackadder, The Young Ones, Drop Dead Fred, Guest House Paradiso, The Comic Strip Presents and Bottom are all personal favourites of mine.
RIP Rik.

RICK: [reciting] Pollution!
All around!
Sometimes [looks up] up!
Sometimes [looks down] down!
But always [looks around] around!
Pollution, are you coming to my town?
Or am I coming to yours? Ha!
We're on different buses, pollution!
But we're both using petrol!
[turns around. pan out to see that he was looking in a mirror. Rick stares at camera]
...Bombs! [smiles his Rick smile]
I think I'll spend sone time watching the young ones.

Very sad news, and such a shock at such an age. Don't think he ever seemed to fully recover from the bad accident he had on a quad bike a few years back though.
Like others I loved him in The Young Ones and Drop Dead Fred. RIP x |

Saw Rik at a one man stand up show, posters everywhere saying THIS SHOW WILL OFFEND/DO NOT BRING KIDS/PARENTS/OVER 18'S ONLY!
He did 5 minutes, then told the audience that that was tame - and if they found THAT offensive then they should gather their shopping and fuck off! He then went off stage for 10 minutes to give them time, promising to be back.
When he came back on, half the audience had gone! His words " Glad the boring bastards have gone - now lets get on with the fucking show!"
He was brilliant x

And one grown up would ask
But why are all the kid's crying?
And someone would say, haven't you heard rik is dead the peoples poet is dead
Then one particularly astute teen will say.
But lo he can't be dead because we still have his poem's
Then another would say....
Gets hit on head with cricket bat by Adrian
Oh shut up rik |

rik mayall has died, and im actually sad. i ave never been bothered about a 'celebrity' dying before. genuinely couldnt give a fuck, but he was such a big part of my life and comedic loves. i enjoyed everything he did, alongside ade edmondson, and now its all over. never again will we be subjected to his crass, adolescent filthy brand of anarchic humour. the kids of today will know nothing of genuine boundary pushing comedy.
RIP Rik. a true comedy king |

RIP Rik mayall.
One of Britain's best comedy actors. Not only was he one of pioneers of alternative comedy but also part of a comedy duo that would last over 2 decades. A very very funny man whom I spent hours of my youth laughing at.
My thoughts are with his family and friends. |

"Saw him live twice on "Bottom" tours"
I saw him live in 03, and remember that during the show one woman near the front kept shouting throughout, eventually loudly proclaiming
'I love you Richie!'
before he turned to her and replied
'Yeah well I HATE you!'

The New Statesman was ahead of its time.
Just found this in the quotes sectiom on imdb
Liberal Democrat MP: I should like to point out on behalf of the Liberal Democrats, That although we are very nice people we have absolutely no idea how to run a country.

Seems quite topical in modern politics too
Alan: Why should we, the country that produced Shakespeare, Christopher Wren, and those are just the people on our banknotes for Christ's sake, cower down to the countries that produced Hitler, Napoleon, the Mafia, and the the the, the the the, the the the Smurfs!

I cannot brrruddy believe it!!! He's taken the last freedom moped out of nowhere city and hasn't told us what time he'll be back!
A talented comic genius, he and Ade were the anarchic modern day version of Laurel and Hardy.
Will be sadly missed... |

his wife has suggested it MAY hve been an epileptic fit.
if so, its doubly sad as, had he not been alone, his death could have been prevented. |

Ade's tribute to him, well wouldn't expect anything else "There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing. They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard." |

Read about this yesterday and was almost in tears. Takes a lot for me to cry. Really wish I had the chance to meet him.
Another idol of mine taken away this year. The other Bob Hoskins.
I grew up watching the re-runs of Bottom et. al and as a key front runner to 'alternative' comedy was inspired to write my Dissertation on it all. 65% yay!
But anyway, it's still choking me now. Rest in peace you fucking funny legend of a man. |
