Hi all
Anybody tried intermittent fasting for weight loss or cutting.
Am toying with the idea of giving it a go. So was wondering if anybody has tried it.
Basic concept of it is you fast for 16hrs each day then eat your days worth of food in a eight hour window.
Hugh jackman is a big fan of it having trained like it for the latest wolverine film.
I normally train from 11.30am till
1pm each day.
So if on On a IF I then would eat from 1pm till 9pm my 8hr eating window.
And then fast from 9pm till 1pm the following day.
Good to here anyone's experience of IF.

Sounds like a fad to me, three to five small meals a day within your calorie allowance is probably healthier. I thought if you fast, your body's instinct was to store as much fat as possible in case you were starving. Especially as everyone typically fasts for 7 or 8 hours while sleeping, hence 'break...fast' hope it works for you. Keep us posted. |

Lost 4 stone doing this. I got back into training so didnt eat til after I trained.
There are so many advantages to this biologically and I had done it all my life until injury forced me out of training. Execising in a starved state is by far and away the best for fat loss and muscular growth as it is how we evolved through prehistory.
I suggest you go to the Leangains website.....fantastic site that has so many links to published info.

You are right the body will store fat, which then needs to be turned into muscle hence needing to do heavy exercise, which is what hugh Jackman did to achieve his goal weight/physique. |

"I pretty much do this anyway as I don't eat breakfast and then have my lunch at 1 and dinner at 6. "
Ditto!
I'm aware it's not the done thing to skip breakfast - but I'm often on the road at 6/7am and apart from a cuppa first thing won't eat until 6/7pm when I get home.
Weekends are different - but it's been the same for years. And I've never heard of IF !
I thought it was a bank! (Intelligent Finance)

Wrong! See below!
"Muscle mass and fat are two different animals: Muscle is active tissue that burns calories around the clock even as you sleep, kind of like an engine running in neutral. When you move around, you burn more calories, just like a car will consume more gas the faster you go. Fat, on the other hand, is just a storage of excess energy. It does nothing but sit there with its sole goal in life to be a spare tire around your waist until you put in the effort to burn it off."

The body will store fat if you have been starving....its a fail safe system but only kicks in if you have been starving for a long period of time.
This is overriden by the requirement for muscle that heavy training places on it. The need to survive possible over stressing over the body leaps right to the front of the queue.
Muscle is never turned to fat.

If you want to get ripped cut the carbs from your diet, protein is your best friend in doing this. I done it last year for 2 weeks and done loads of cardio and I seen serious results. Just look up no carb diets don't do the fasting as you don't want to lose muscle mass. It all starts in the kitchen the kitchen is your science lab |

Look out for the leangains IF program. It works but stick to the rules. You will see results |

IF is not about reducing calories although it can be used that way.
Its about utilising the bodies cortosol levels, and other responses to starved state training, to maximise hypertrophic response.
Eating when your body most needs it and will do most with the nutrients provided. 5 meals a day is just a modern day eating pattern that a million year old machine has not evolved to use.
As for the usual bunkum doled out by BB magazines.......dont bother. |

I ate IF style for over a year, and personally found it helps a lot with regard to maintaining your weight, but never had much in the way of fat loss from it. |
