Vodka/redbull seems to have an effect on most things lol . But given the choice I'd choose beer every time

Don't use slug pellets - birds eat the dead slugs and snails and then they get poisoned. Salt will damage the soil.
I've been waging a war on the buggers this week - I've found the best way is to water the garden in late evening, then go out while everything's still wet and catch them in the act. And... splat!
Then I leave them out for the birds.
Mr London thinks I've gone doolally when I wander around at midnight with my torch and my snail whacking stick - but I'll win the battle and the war!!!

Ask your local coffee shop if you can have the grounds and use as a mulch.
Anything gritty works, sand or crushed shells (as long as they're crushed fairly small) but coffee is biodegradable and cats won't try to use it like a litter tray. |

Salt is not good for plants, so keep it away from them. At best it will dessicate them, like it does the slugs. There are iron based pellets that are animal safe, and work best if a little damp. Metaldehyde is the stuff used in most and to avoid. Check for iron based ones at garden centres, not wilko. Ok with wildlife and degrades as a plant benefit. |

Beer in an empty jam jar is effective, John Smiths bitter for example. Personally I think its the worst beer ever, after Watney's Red Barrel but the slugs and snails love it ... Unfortunately they drink so much they drown!! |
