God damm supermarkets

Maybe. However, if you look carefully, you'll loads of instances of this. It's supermarkets playing on "instinct" which is usually wrong. The most obvious being "it's cheaper to buy bigger packets". Actually, don't blame the supermarkets, blame the customers  A few years ago, when our lad was learning his numbers, we were at the supermarket, getting our cereal, and he saw a lady buying a 48-pack of Weetabix. However there was a special offer on the 24s which made it *much* cheaper to buy 2x24 than 1x48. He politely (and excitedly) pointed this out to her. She looked puzzled, and then said, rather abruptly: "But I want 48" and walked off. I ended up explaining that thanks to people like her, we could have our shopping cheaper |

A popular market stall in town near me often sells strawberries £1.50 each or 3 for £5 with a guy shouting it. And folk scramble to buy 3 
Supermarket (1 of big 4) often do a 2 for £x deals where the deal is cheaper than buying a single item and you see loads of people only buying 1 |

Or maybe not. I've seen this done with cheese. They offer a "special" double pack price that works out about £1.50 more than two single packs. When I challenged a member of staff I got told it's up to the consumer to find the best buys  |

Cant speak for petrol and don't want to sound tight lol but we've noticed supermarket diesel gets us about 20% less milage than the same amount of Shell etc which is quite a lot from a full tank.
We give any fuel vouchers to our son for his petrol as its cheaper for us to pay full price for full fat diesel at garage than using the chemically diluted supermarket stuff. You dont get anything without a catch |

I make a list and go and get what's on the list. If it's BOGOF I will pick up the extra item if it will be used. I once bought a sack of spuds and the cashier said they were BOGOF and I replied I can only eat so many potatoes. She said but they're free
If it's buy two and save 50p I rarely buy. It only means you'll end up spending more at the till and you haven't saved anything at all. |

If we see a BOGOF and only need one, we'll put the free one in the food bank on the way out. |

Precisely. And that's the point. Such offers are intended to make you spend MORE money.
If they genuinely wanted to save you money they would lower the prices - and not just for special offers or sales. |

A lot of the BOGOF are items that are going out of date and the supermarket is getting rid of them. Why buy more and having to pay more to save money, if you can't eat them before expiry date?
I saw once some meat on the reduce shelf that had been reduced because it was going out of date, but on the packet it stated an offer to buy 2. By doing some simple maths and comparing how much would save per single item with the offer, it was better to buy the longer dated with the offer, as you would only save 1p from buying the reduced meat without the offer?? I pointed this out to staff, who just shrugged and said that's what they've been told to put on the reduce ticket.
Also, reducing products across the store competing with the same at other supermarkets, is compensated by increasing other products throughout the store. |

It's all a scam. You want cheap supermarket shopping - go to the likes of Aldi or Lidl. Tesco's have just posted a massive drop in their profits again this year.
People are flocking to the cut price supermarkets..
It used to be that when I shopped in Aldi mid week after work it was quiet - but it's really busy now and Saturday can be bedlam with all the parking spaces full and trolleys hard to find.
People are beginning to turn away from the big three/four. |

I agree with this, apart from Dog Food and my laundry stuff I ship in both Lidl and Aldi, I would recommend them. |

When Aldi first started here years ago (must be around 15 years or more) I got some washing powder from them which I really reacted to - had to re wash everything. But I use their non-bio liquid tabs and they are just fine! They have really improved the quality of their goods. You can even buy venison steaks there. And the fresh Angus beef burgers are delicious! |

I have had Venison from there, did it with a chocolate sauce.....I may try their laundry stuff if its improved.  |
