My mum still has the number...originally it was 4 digits then had a 77 added to the start of the number...I always use it as a combination on safes in holiday apartments...my best mate uses her original number (which her parents still have) to lock her iPhone - which is fortunate when she has whale music playing to send her off to sleep that's still going on 4 fecking hours later and I can turn the damn thing off when we're on holiday |

Yes and the fact that back in the day when we had our first telephone installed everyone used to answer it by giving their number to the caller - who presumably knew it to have dialled it in the first place!!
That was in the days when telephones were kept on a table specifically designed for them in the hall!! |

I went on holiday with someone once who insisted on going to sleep with the sound of the cure on it drove me mad
I soon found another room with a nice man in it |

Now we're all so suspicious of a wrong number
"What number is this?"
"What number do you want?"
My landline now is very similar to a hairdressers,I swear one old lady tries to book a shampoo and set with me at least once a month! |

"Its car number plates I struggle with - even the one on my current car "
I don't know my car number plate or any phone numbers I used to have. I do know my current mobile number but not my home number.
I do know my national insurance number though. |

I think we were probably all taught it, in case of emergency. That was before foetuses of 6 weeks plus were bought their first shiny iphones etc, locked into 18 year contracts. I do remember my first no. |

My Aunt and Uncle were the first in our family to have a phone. She used to answer with "*name of exchange* two, five, five, oh"
Uncle used to pick it up and say "two double five oh" and get told off. She even used to ring home when she was out to test him!
If she was alive now we would call her Hyacinth |

I don't think we had a telephone until the house we moved to when I was 7. I lived there until I was 18, so yes, I remember the number.
I find it difficult to remember my parents' current number though. It's only be relating it to a sex act that I have been able to memorise it! They'd probably be shocked at what I have to think of if I want to 'phone them! |
