Bollocks. Ronaldo couldn't have played on them bumpy old pitches in heavy leather boots with a ball that was so heavy it could break your nose if you got it in the face. Go and watch some footage of Best's magic. Modern footballers can't hold a candle to his skills. Even Pele said George was the greatest football player ever! Ronaldo? Pfffft!!! |

Good random post, and welcome to post anything you wish - better than a negative one, like you say!
Being the best footballer, is surely about consistently delivering over years, improving and having competed on the works stage several times.
Best was obviously talented, but did he discipline himself? No. Long career? No. Back then he stood out, but didn't train hard according to several united figures / ex played, it's unfair to even compare him to other talents, he was sadly a wasted talent who retired early and had serious problems.
Ronaldo is leagues ahead, no question about that. I'm a Blackburn fan too, before anyone accuses me of being a Liverpool / City fan! |

"A bit random.... lol why i thought the forum was to post anything you like on.
should i change it to i cant meet any women please help with my profile, or does size matter would that be better? "
Absolutely this is the right place to post such randomness,,,
For the record I like Charlie Hurley... ..... ( he was a footballer before anyone thinks otherwise)

Trying to compare across eras is futile. In the days when Best was weaving his magic, world opinion held him up as one of the greatest footballers. Years after his death you've opened a thread on a swinging site about him, he can't have been all that bad. |

Maradona for me too..
I hope we're talking about the Brazilian Ronaldo.... Alongside Zidane, he's my favourite player ever.
I prefer messi to Ronaldo... I appreciate the power and athleticism of Ronaldo but prefer the subtlety and guile of messi... Both top drawer |

Lionel Messi was the best in the world in 2012 and probably for a year or two before that. Last year and this year it has to be Ronaldo.
Are they better than Best or even Pele?
Not sure really, but one thing is certain neither of them would have survived until half time playing against the Likes of Harris, Smith, Crerand, Bremner, or Hunter, to name just a few. Best did, week in week out. |

George Best on a swingers site is quite apt. Wasn't there that story that when Room Service walked into his hotel room and saw him asleep between two former Miss Worlds, shook his head and said, "George, where did it all go wrong?" |

different conditions, different games.
norman hunter was arguably the best defender of his time.
wouldnt get a game now as he would constantly be suspended.
cant compare footballers from now, to 20 years ago, or 50 years ago, im afraid. |

if george best was alive today, and in his prime modern boots, modern ball, pitted against ronaldo, messi, pele, maradona..... all with equal equipment bestie is nowhere.
maradona is def up there, along with messi, but ronaldo as an athelete his physical presence and skill is very hard to beat, which puts him in front of messi imo, but arguably maradona is right there with him as an equal |

so, what you do is transport older sportsman into modern day conditions?
totally unfair as they didnt have those modern day conditions to show what they could do.
who knows how good pele, best or maradona could have actually been had they played with modern day equipment or on bowling green pitches.
the fact is, you cant even come close to imagining the difference.
take ronaldo back to the 70's, playing in the middle of a field, with hardly a blade of grass around and defenders that are not only allowed to kick lumps out of you, but tackle from behind too.
you reckon his silky skills would come to the fore?
bollox.
he cant even stay on his feet with defenders that are no longer allowed to tackle, let alone anything more physical.
different times, different eras, different games. |

i was thinking more of bringing those older players forward to modern day. altho ronaldos skills could be played on mud grass sand or concrete they would be affected granted but they would still be there, as for be kicked yes he would cry |

Difficult to compare players.Brian laudrup. Gazza. Another 2magicians
or my favourite Jim Baxter who beat the England world cup winning side by himself.. He actually sat on the ball during the game to emphasise how easy it was for him. My ultimate hero who admittedly fucked himself with the drink. Rip . X |

so you agree they cant be compared then?
best may well have had silky smooth skills if he had had a bowling green to play on every weekend, you just dont know |

I don't quite get this greatest of all time thing, of all the players mentioned so far I wouldn't want any of them to play in goal for my team!
P.s.. I world say bobby Moore was the greatest defender ever and he would be captain of the the worlds greatest ever 11. |

Never keen in this "greatest of all time" obsession. There are players who are the best of their era. Ronaldo is amongst the best of his era and Best was amongst the best of his.

I often used to lament on the talent Gascoigne squandered.

All your choices mean nothing as i am the greatest footballer that has and will ever grace a football pitch, all other footballers pale into insignifigance whether its best, pele, messi, romario, ronaldinho, ronaldo (goofy), ronaldo (winker), chris kamara, gascoigne, kenny mower, maradona (cheating druggie bastard), bobby moore or jimmy greaves they are all shite compared to me, i was that good i was able to get a job as programme project manager instead of a professional footballer earning £250,000 per week, i mean bet they would love to give up their career and lifestyle and swap it with mine however they are not good enough but i could do what they do |

Comparing 1960's football video to modern day isn't possible. The pitch, ball, kit have improved so much that it would be like comparing Stirling Moss lap times to Lewis Hamilton's
George Best had respect from some of the great players of the time, and it's a team game not an individual performance so a defender who tackles well, anticipates the ball and passes accurately is probably a better player than any striker, even if they never score a goal directly. |

you take a player from the 50s 60s 70s 80s or even 90s to play on the pitches of 2014 that is perfect flat n full of grass from August to May not mud patch or mound of sand in sight with the way they played with people like Norman Hunter etc tackling them hard n strong players like Ronaldo he wouldn't last 2 minuets on 70s pitch against a Chelsea or a Leeds... Delusional MY ARES |

I'd like to throw Ryan Giggs into the mix.
Yes, I'm aware he perhaps wasn't the greatest player per-se,but his longevity of career, all at one club, his ability to control a game, and his ability to motivate players was second to none, definitely deserves to be in anyones "starting 11" of all-time greats. |
