"There are some peoiple SO poor they can only eat White Bread!
or cake,allegedly"
If you're referring to the famous Marie Antoinette quote, the "cake" was animal feed, not french fancies or choccy eclairs. |

Damn, I shouldn't have said that, I fancy a real chip butty, the ones where you make the chips yourself, not these stupid oven chips that we normally buy.........and let them go crispy in the chip pan, then add lots of salt and finger/white bread and butter !!

Asda do a quite nice brown loaf same price as their white at 50p, so if they have Asda near there is a choice.
I tend to make my ow, soda bread or unleavened, but if I buy from a shop go for granary, or Vogel |

Thick doorsteps of Asda White Batch, with real butter, home made raspberry jam and nice strong mature cheddar.
I remember watching my husband eating that concoction and thinking it was a bit off, but you know what, its good!! |

There are some occasions when only white bread will do and some when only brown will do
Granary is my fave but toasted brown bread tastes rank to me |

"I like brown better, except if I am having a chip butty, then it has to be white."
I know it is a British thing...just does not appeal to me...lol...but like I said lots here think that peanut butter and jam is a crazy combo...so I guess each country have their own thing...quebec where I am from have poutine which is chips in gravy with curd cheese...lol( waiting for the comments of ewwww and gross now...he he he) |

The kids will only eat sliced white bread, I prefer sliced wholemeal for sandwiches and an uncut wholemeal for toast. Sliced wholemeal bread for toast is horrid. My favourite bread is a walnut and date artisan loaf from Morrison's. |

May I ask, as you like "real" bread how the children have come to like sliced white? |

Well the eldest is 23yrs old male and moody and the youngest is 17yrs old and suffers from PMT permanently. Youngest refuses to try anything different and the eldest is too fecking lazy to cut a nice fresh loaf. They wont even try the bread that I bake. |

I see your problem, now, but didn't answer the question....sorry am not having pop, just curious, have you always had real bread etc., ?.......as a kid we only had white shop bought so no choice, now do my own or granary or Vogel as that's what I go for, so am curious as to when tastes change and people start appreciating other things would hate to have a family to feed & believe me I know what it takes to feed 5 little darlings on nothing...ta mum lol |

I was brought up on either home baked bread or bread baked by our local bakery which was directly opposite our house. My mum was a fussy eater but my dad brought me up to try everything, it worked with me but didn't work with my sister who was two years younger. My daughter also had a go at most things until she was about four and then became quite vocal about things. I tend not to bake now as madame refuses to try anything I bake, have even tried to get her to bake it thinking she may try it but it doesn't work. If I buy wholemeal it gets thrown out as she wont eat it and neither will my eldest, it's their choice as they've always had the option of fresh baked at home or artisan breads I bring when I do the grocery shopping. If I make sandwiches with wholemeal bread they'll peel the bread off and eat the contents. So it's not from a lack of choice here lol just their personal preference. |
