Reading through the threads and profiles I would think there are quite a few people on this site with above average intelligence. How many have taken an IQ test? It would be interesting to know.
Have we any members of Mensa amongst us?

"What's average? xD
Average is 100 and believe me the average is pretty bloody dull.
average is 85-114
Oh I wonder what's smack bang in the centre of those two numbers."
I've met plenty of people with higher and lower IQ scores and found it neither permits nor denies either form being interesting or a complete twat.

I'm a dumb shit with an iq of 134.. so IQ proves nothing. There's different types of smart. Just cos I did well on an IQ test, doesn't mean I'm clever xD I need a walking dictionary, and everything has to be explained to me like 20 times. |

I refused to take an IQ test when they wanted us to do them at school. It reeked of elitism to me so I took a detention instead for my refusal. I won though since it was chucking it down and I got to stay inside and read a book at lunchtime so it wasn't much of a punishment. |

Jus because someone is intelligent does not mean you can get an intelligent conversation out of them.
Some people are too opinionated and up themselves to care about other people's options, everyone is below them.
Personally I am stupid left school. With no qualifications and have scored very highly in numerous iq tests. Yet without predicted text my posts would be illegible. Go figure?
Does being smart make you a food lover tho? More of an animal thing I think. |

As far as I'm aware, intelligence is basically someones ability to observe with world around them, and formulate conclusions in their head that allow them to best exist in their environment. |

Most of us are going to be of average intelligence, in society at large, though we may have exceptional abilities in specific aspects of intelligence.
IQ scores are imo largely an inadequate measure of intelligence and research that set them on their way was falsified - so don't rely on them. One can also learn to raise your IQ score, which also refutes that ability as something that is a measurement of an innate quality.
So many aspects of the human mind and brilliance aren't covered, and my delightful slutty fashion sense doesn't even get a look in. OK, I'm amongst the masses, largely average in most things, but I'm not subjecting myself to tests that don't prove anything much, other than ability to take that particular test.
I can smell a person's scent and discriminate whether they're worth shagging or not from over a mile away, and this isn't covered either. I must be the bastard child of Hannibal Lecter.
Accept yourself for what you have, use your mind as you wish as, like a muscle, we can sustain our qualities but also let them slide. |

Yes I have. I lie about the result because I value common sense far more than being able to unravel string theory*

*String Theory is the odds that any given length of string when placed on a flat surface will inexplicably generate a number of knots in it, proportional to amount of time it is unwatched and th length of the string (n=(dlength/dtime)2) |

Most intelligent person I ever met was working in a government research facility. More phd's etc..than you could shake a stick at.
Yet the guy could not even dress himself 50plus lived at home with mum.
Existing on a totally different level to just about anyone else.

To me, isn't *intelligence" rather the degree and effectiveness with which one uses their *intellect*?
Some may have an IQ of 160 but appear pretty thick and stupid. Conversely, someone with an IQ below 100 can often be very bright, skilled and achieve amazing things.

It's disgraceful really.
We had to serve detention after 4pm when all the other kids got to go home, and 1 hour at a time with no activities allowed.
So the other kids told me lol |

Learnt intelligence is just that...learnt. We rank people in this society based upon how good they are at learning and remembering stuff...as if that was a mark of intelligence. Meanwhile anyone, anywhere, has the capacity to simply conjure up out of thin air...the next big idea which will change the way we think. To me it's all about creativity in thinking...and that can come from anyone...even a little kid |

Is that the one which consists of two circles, one with 'engine' written in it, the other with 'control panel' written in it and a big arrow pointing at the word 'time' written with a different colored crayon for each letter? |

I did really well in a test at school when I was 13. It was in Russian and was to be used to pick students to put forward for Italian lessons. They weren't allowed give us our marks but my teacher said I'd scored highest |

Yeah I know what you mean Frisky I was just specifically talking about the accolades we give to learnt intelligence. I've known people who really put themselves down because they didn't get many GCSE's or such and then they turn around and say something that blows your mind. So I always try to be open to intelligence coming from any source |

Yes, but I would classify them differently - I would call them exam qualifications or education etc rather than intelligence. And someone who does not score well on intelligence can still say something profound, or insightful or wise, and have way more 'common sense'. Highly intelligent people are more prone to asbergers and other social dysfunctions.
It's just a measure of one particular facility - there are many others of value! |

There are loads of IQ tests on the Internet and one can't compare between them. I've met highly intelligent people - scarily bright - who couldn't bake a cake. So in that respect, they were as thick as shit. |

Quite amusingly, they used to use this official (if a little offensive) IQ classification.
140-200 - Near Genius or Genius
130-139 - Very Superior
120-129 - Superior
110-119 - Above Average
90-109 - Average
80-89 - Below Average
70-79 - Dull
50-69 - Moron or Feeble-Minded
25-49 - Imbecile
0-24 - Idiot

I haven't been for the full Mensa tests but I did one of those ones you send off to see if you would be a possible in my 20s and it said I was in top 2%, did it again in my 40s and I'd gone down to top 3%...I'm a bit worried that I'll end up a complete thickie if I live another few hundred years |

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
Done several IQ tests as they were all the rage when I was at school for monitoring kids. I got 130 and it stayed around there for a while. However all it measures is how your brain works, no intelligence, which is why I am still sat here on a Saturday morning posting messages on a swinging forum instead of sat on a beach in the Bahamas being rich, or at the CERN laboratory changing the universe.
EQ (emotional intelligence) is all the rage at the mo, but I doubt even that would get me a better job. |

If you say you have common sense, emotional intelligence and are the proud owner of more than one degree, then some people may wrongly brand you as arrogant.
My credentials do not make me anymore intelligent than the next person, all they show is that firstly i had the will and secondly i was lucky enough to be supported by my employer in the effort to gain them. |

In order to gain employment at the upper levels I've had to get myself educated to the hilt. It's just what I've done to try and maximise my opportunities for my family. I wouldn't want anyone making opinions on me either. I did what I had to do and it doesn't mean I'm elitist or full of myself or any more capable of insight and creative thinking than the next person.
For me friendship should cut across all stratas of society, all classes, all races, all sexes...it should just be about people connecting and having a good time together. That's why I like going out on the boats fishing from time to time...you get such a cross section of people who otherwise may never have met. I sense swinging could be the same |

I did a IQ text and it was pretty low but since I'm dyslexic and the test was all English and Maths based what do you expect.
But even so I think I'm very intelligent in other ways. I'm very perspective, have a lot of common sense, I have a very logical mind and 2 degrees. I can also read better then most people but don't ask me to spell. I'll die on my are. |

I'm reading this whilst sitting in my garden. My next door neighbours and her sisters are sitting discussing the latest Britain's got Talent in their garden. It's like listening to a spoof about the great unwashed. They are all in their forties/fifties and they can barely string a sentence together and between them they only have about ten teeth. But they're happy, they are happy making my afternoon a bit miserable as I lounge in my garden trying to read a very good book and failing because of the cackling. Who is the least intelligent, them for being fulfilled by inane drivel TV or me for living next door to them? |

Thing is a true genuis really doesnt have much of a connection with the real will, they find it hard to intigrate with society in general.
Im above average intelligence but ive never had it channeled so ive been told i have raw intelligence whatever that should mean.
Im quite happy having the intelligence that i do have, i can communicate with the masses, make friends, have feelings and im pretty astute |

Thanks for the message but I prefer to keep forum discussions in the forums rather than mixed up in private messages. With regard to your reply I think somebody may have exaggerated a wee bit - the test used by British MENSA would mean an IQ over 200 would be incredible - even more so for several people in the same group.
If there is such a group make sure you listen very carefully to their chats |
