Right in a few weeks I'm off to Portsmouth for 2 nights for 1 day of training. But looking to either-

1 - Try and get a meet for social or more

2 - Simply go out for a drink?

I say odd as I've never really had a pint on my own in a strange town for years, certainly not since I went backpacking an a 34 yo guy drinking on his own seems a little odd.

Any thoughts?

Try both 1 and 2. There's nothing wrong going out for a beer on your own. You never know who might meet.

Brighton - even Hove!

Put a meet up in the meets section or find a nice pub on your lonesome. Nothing wrong with a pint at the bar.

Unfortunately Joanna's is closed so there go your chances of a guaranteed lay. Guildhall square is for kids these days and with the demise of the RN town is pretty quiet during the week.

I remember it when any night of the week was good for meeting people if you know what I mean.

By the seaside

Why don't change your postcode on your profile to the Portsmouth one and then use your status to let people know in updates that you will be in the area and if anyone is interested in meeting.

And if you decide just to go for an evening out head for Gunwharf. Lots of restaurants, drinking places and if all else fails you can catch a movie

Go out and have a meal and take a good book with you. When I had to take my boss to a function, I just went to Frankie and Bennies, had a slap up meal and 2 hours with a good book.

Don't be afraid of your own company my friend.

Some of the best and most memorable beers I've ever had, I sat and supped on my own.

Twice in my life I have walked into a pub and the whole place has gone quiet.

At least the barman heard my order

What I think is sad is that we risk becoming less socially gregarious and open to others. Im all for getting out alone when somewhere new. Last ditch saloon may be to put a listing up for all genders to join you for a social at the pub.

I would still think twice about wearing anything RAF if you go anywhere near the docks though!
