Just two examples to quote which have been in the news recently, maybe you can add your own flavour.

1. Tony Blair calling the UKIP party "nasty and unpleasant".

Wasn't very nice of you bombing Iraq, including women and children, was it?

2. Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness of Sinn Féin calling on Mr Robinson to show leadership in promoting equality, tolerance and mutual respect for all.

Oh Really! So how does that work then?

I 'spose there could be one exception made.

By some accounts Nick Clegg is quoted as saying he's staying leader of his party until he's finished. Something like that.

A politician is a professional liar. Many started in the legal profession. Draw your own conclusion.

As a politician you have to be able to play all the different sides - business, media, other politicians, the public. It's pretty much impossible for a politician to be consistent and honest with all the different influences and pressures.

Not saying it lets them off the hook, but society is as much to blame.

"A politician is a professional liar. Many started in the legal profession. Draw your own conclusion. "

I somewhat recall a statistic from the early hours following 1997 election and Blair's landslide.

Something like, of the 400 "new" MP's in the Nu-Labour party, 387 of them were from a legal background. The conclusion i drew then proved to be accurate and the full effects have yet to be felt in society.

MP bashing is of course good sport... But who the hell would want a job where everyone is on your back, nobody trusts you, everyone hates you no matter what you do and to cap it all.. You can't even fiddle your expenses anymore to top up what is essentially a very poor wage for what they do.

On the whole, I think it is those with self interest that are more driven to pursue their goals than others.

So those with self interest land those positions.

There are certainly folks who are driven to help, but they are outnumbered by those who want money and power, in my opinion. And I recognise that it is just an opinion.

What you say may have a semblance of truth but i'd wager there is no shortage of applicants ie candidates for the role come the next election. And that's after every parties' selection processes.

So it can't be that bad a job.

How many politicians have had a real job? They are out of touch with the public, never stick to election policies, certainly do not work in the interests of the country only themselves. Bullsh*ters would be a better term

Politicians simply reflect the society that elects them; or they do not become an elected politician.

Society varies widely so they will tell one section one thing and another the opposite. So what do you call an honest politician? Anything you want as he is usually dead or unelectable.

"You had me until poor wage

they do get more than £70,000 a year by using expenses they amass nearly double that, they do not live in the real world.

If they did what the vast majority of the electorate did and pay for everyday items and bills out of their wages (£70,000), only held down one full time job (as oppossed to lots of part time jobs on the side), forfeitted their right to a final salary pension like they are demand ing every other civil servant does then they may be more in touch with reality

what they practise and what they preach are poles apart and there is not one who cannot lie straight in bed.

Perhaps you would contemplate making the long term unemployed politicians or possibly new school leavers?

What calibre of people would you want running the country and hob bobbing with the great and the good of our European and world allies?

You don't need to be qualified, or have any previous experience to become an MP, just need to know when to say yes and no. Self serving, with no political agenda apart from self preservation. It applies to business, sport, politics and is not the sole preserve of the UK, it's a global thing. Remember: a politician will tell you anything and promise everything, to get your vote and do everything he/she can to further profit from it, at your expense......they are employed by us, yet set their own agendas.
