In a nutshell, it's because time is a subjective concept based on our own perceptions and various chemicals and neuro-transmitters can affect it. Give yourself a fright; the adrenaline will at least make it feel like time's moving more quickly. |

Interesting point. As time is actually speeding up in general. If you compare a clock in the present epoch to a hypothetical clock in the early universe, just after the Big Bang, you'll find that time ran "slower" in the early universe because the mass density was so high. So essentially in very deep/dense gravitational fields clocks will run slower and as gravity weakens the clock will speed up. This leads me to believe that your waiting room maybe from an earlier time, an era significantly closer to the Big Bang.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to affect, but actually, from a non-linier, non subjective point of view it is more like a big ball of wibbily wobbly timey wimey...stuff
