Strange request, but are any of you boxers or taken part in boxing?
How tough is it? What is the training like? Does it really hurt when you get punched?
What are others views on the sport? |

"Does it hurt when you get punched ??? "
May sound a stupid question but with the conditioning work they do, I wondered of that lessened the feel of impact. |

My personal trainer is a boxer. He says it hurts less now then it used to, but it still feels he's been bulldozed after a training bout, let alone a real fight.
The cardio training he does is immense, hill sprints etc. Puts my long distance run cardio training to shame.
He says it is the toughest sport he has ever done. |

The training hurts way more than getting punched, adrenaline takes the sting out of most of them, even if you're just sparring. Hurts the day after though if you've been pummeled!
a lot of people say "if you're worried about it hurting, try another sport" but i disagree, try it, you may surprise yourself it's a great confidence builder. |

It hurts when you get hit and it can also hurt you when you hit someone else if you don't punch correctly.
Sprained wrists, broken wrists and broken and dislocated fingers were common in the gym, especially when working the heavy bag wearing light gloves or just with bandaged hands.
It's a great sport though and nothing gets the adrenilin pumping more than trying to dodge a few punches

Thanks for your feedback. So ish have had a moment of madness tonight.
I have applied to take part in white collar boxing for charity. I get 8 weeks training, and take part in a bout at an event in August.
It's in aid of cancer research UK, and I'm waiting to hear if I've been accepted.
I'm seeing it as the biggest challenge of my life, but am somewhat excited at the prospect.

Serious amount of sparring and training improves your pain barrier. Saying that it's also possible to be hit so hard. You go down and don't feel it. That said this is years later of training and training is seriously hard work, blood, sweat and tears.
That said, asking if a punch off a trained boxer hurt is rather a stupid, yet obvious answer |

You'll probably be wearing a head guard then. So it won't hurt too much when you hit on your noggin |

I read somewhere they did a study and a full power punch from a pro middleweight boxer is like getting hit by a sledgehammer.
A heavyweight is like half a 1 ton car.
I think that would be extremely painful |

Tough, the training is tough. IF you get punched really hard it does not hurt...until you wake up... |

Yep I (him) have boxed for 15 years and yes it hurts. You do build up a certain resistance to the pain though. Fantastic training though and very addictive. I'm also a qualified boxing coach if you need any tips |

There's me thinking anyone knows the obvious boxing tips:
1. Hit harder your opponents and learn to knock people down in one jab.
2. Don't get hit.
3. Don't get tired.
Do all 3. Problem solved, lol |

Good luck getting picked and for putting yourself up for a great cause. You might even win and if not, you may still get licked in the ring |

I never did boxing but I use to do kick boxing which has similar training apart from extra training on the legs like spending time on a streaching machine to improve flexibility. It is real carector building. Top tip is to get into the philosophy of fighting early on. And learn how to read the body of the opponent. It hurts a lot less if you do. |

In all seriousness, if you get to fight, the other guy will be a novice too, so may not punch as hard as a regular, though it will still hurt.
So, Top Tip :
Get into an early clinch, whisper in his ear "that it's all just for charity, we're not gonna hurt each other are we?" |

I did a year of boxing at 15, the training is the toughest workout you'll ever do, proper boxing training gruelling. Good luck with it, will certainly get you in shape.
I only had one fight, got my nose broken and was a bit too vain as a youngster to want to continue. |

During my early teens I joined a boxing club and all was going well until our club was matched against another local club....
In my first and only competitive bout I was drawn to fight a scrawny looking lad who happened to be half my size and almost a full year younger than me....
He knocked the crap out of me....

I'm not a boxer but I did dabble with punching people in my youth. Usually just hitting people in the face at last orders, that sort of thing. It was good at the time but it's a young man's game.
I would suggest your start small, maybe try punching a sparrow in the face. Then when you are confident move up to punching a cat or a dog in the face. By then you will know if punching things in the face is for you. |

Having done boxing for years a would suggest going for a few runs each week, they don't have to be long maybe 3_4 miles but done at a good pace. You might not think 3x2min rounds is a lot, let me tell you otherwise when your training keep your rest periods to 30secs, remember in your fight you get a minute rest inbetween rounds and lastly get skipping hope this helps best of luck |

I've been doing boxing for almost ten years (I'm 21 now). It's a great sport and superb for keeping yourself in good shape, it's also good to be able to handle yourself if you find yourself in any sketchy situations. In my experience girls seem to find it a bit of a turn on which is always a great bonus. |
