Right then you peeps who know everything!
I just booked a break in the Languedoc, I've never before, but it was time sensitive and I had to book before midnight to get the best deal (a bottle and a half of champagne haven't helped my decision making ).
So, what is worth seeing and doing in the vicinity of Les Argules?
Do we need to hire a car or can we get around by public transport? Can we get from perpignon airport by public transport? |

Hee hee! Yay you!
It's the bit of France that's not the Riviera but is nearly Spain. |

Carmargue is nice, pelicans, horses etc, saintes marie de la mer is a nice little town, climb the church to the roof, cool views.
aigues mortes - wow, its a really cool town, fortified, amazing, a few quid to walk the ramparts but worth it for the views and everything, takes longer than you would think, its good fun.
Some nice beaches down towardsnarbonne beziers.
sete is a really cool place and they do the boat jousting tournaments there which are interesting
beziers is an ok town.
lac du salagu is fun, big lake, swimming, all red soil and looks like a martian landscape
carcassonne is a must see place but can get touristy.
its a lovely region, hope you have fun.

Do you mean Argeles?
If so, not a lot and it's a fair trek to see anything worthwhile over the border in Spain.
July/August the place can be rammed, June it can be dead.
There ought to be some kind of bus service between P and A. The only train line in the area connects the two.
Google is your sober friend. |

Yes you need a car.. It's a beautiful spot. You will love it. The scenery is breathtaking.. With sweet little tavernas everywhere.. And beautiful French men.. With that beautiful, Bonjour Madame accent. You will sip French champagne in the moonlight... And eat croissants on the balcony for breakfast. Dressed in a little white silk robe...Overlooking a little port, where small brightly coloured..vessels sway in the gentle breeze, begging to be boarded... Follow me Mademoiselle...it's a beautiful place
Lol carried away.. Enjoy lovely lady you sure as hell deserve it!!
I'm still oblivious as to where the feck it is? Sounds lovely though! x |

If it's Argeles you're going to a car would be an advantage. As previously said during July and august the area is packed. Try and go to collioure it's beautiful little town. Figueres in Spain has the dali museum which is well worth a visit. Le perteus on the Spanish border is interesting. Ceret is a quaint town with a good Saturday market. Port Ligat was dali's summer home and not too far. My dad lived not far away. There's plenty to do and see but you'll need a car x |

Do you mean Argelès sur Mer?
I have been there before, stayed for a week, I am French and I enjoyed the area... I would say it depends what you like doing, how long you are staying and if you have a family...
We cycled everywhere and hired for a good price a wee boat for day trips along the coast.
There's Port Vendres, Banyuls-sur-Mer, Collioure, Cebère/Mas Larrieu natural reserves, I also like North of Argeles, Canet plage.
You can google the towns above and see. There are also great markets you can go to Saturdays or Sunday morning... Check out the 'office du tourisme' website for Argelès etc... So you can have a feel for the place.
Hope this helps. Have a fab time.
Bon voyage. |
