Brooklyn Beckham has reportedly taken a Saturday job. The 15-year-old is believed to have landed a job at a west London coffee shop. His celebrity parents, David and Victoria, are said to have encouraged him to take the job to teach him the value of money. So, is it essential for children to have a Saturday job to understand the value of money?

Brilliant, it's what every parent should do.
I used to fine my kids 20pence every time they left their bedroom light on, encouraged them to do school holiday jobs that they loved.
They soon learnt how money is hard to come by and so easily spent.
Well done Beckhams!! |

Super news and an example to us all .
Only when you have worked for a wage will you understand the value of money .
Great to see the Beckhams remembering their roots |

Recently 2 of the younger Beckham children who play for Arsenal academy were at Ipswich to play. David Beckham was along to watch them like a normal dad attempting to be in Disguise in a flat cap, but obviously word got around and he posed for hundreds of phone snaps and signed his name away countless times. After the football they all headed of to a local Chiquito's not some posh (no pun intended ) restaurant . So all in all even with their family net worth in multi millions i think he and Victoria are doing the best they can for their family, and giving them some grounding in what life is really like. They have been derided in the past but i think they should be much applauded for their attitude. |

"So a question on the back of this for us run of the mill parents without millions in the bank or a hint of a celebrity word.
Even if you could afford to keep your child in home conforts, would you encourage yours to work early for pin money?"
oh totally! Think its because all the family i can recall (except for my brother) has worked since 14/15
i respected things more when i had to earn, save and buy them with my own money. i felt proud.
i grew up and appriciated things more, like days out or sky tv. it was a luxury. I stopped abusing my mobile phone credit when i had to pay for it rather than my parents |

I am not one for celebrity and am totally unfazed by it all, but the Beckhams live near us and many of our friends have bumped into David while out and about. You only hear positive story's about him. I've never heard of him turning down a photo or an autograph and he will answer any questions asked. It must take him ages to do his weekly shop. A thoroughly decent chap by all accounts. |

My son got a job week after his 13th birthday. I was babysitting from about 11 and had a proper part time job at 13.
Bloody good on them for giving him work ethic. I do like David Beckham and what he stands for.

always liked the idea dragons den stalwart peter jones has, for his kids.
they have a trust fund, and the more rewarding the job be (ie nurse, carer and so on) the better their reward from the trust fund will be.
if they do nothing, they get nothing.
i really like that.
most with money would just throw it at their kids to ensure they didnt miss out (as we all would i suppose)
its good to see that the beckhams are at least trying to keep a sense of normality in their childrens lives, even though im certain its very bloody difficult |

yes its good, my son had a paper round and worked in a shop. although to be honest if i had the money like theyv got i would rather give him the money myself and let some other poorer person have his rather awful job.
i wonder how long he will stick it as he is used to having everything he wants. |

Good on them, mine were both expected to have pt jobs etc and as soon as they were out of fte and working they were expected to hand over a percentage towards the households running costs |

I worked from about 14/15. My eldest is currently doing GCSEs and doesn't have a job - but I think the pressures on them are more than when I did my O levels, so I'm not concerned by this. They will be looking at temporary things for the Summer months before beginning A levels, though :D |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I saw this on the news earlier and think it is great but the press will probably make it impossible for him and his brothers later on.
I have admired the Beckham's parenting skills for some time. Their children appear to be polite and well behaved and still able to express their individuality. I hope there isn't a Mommy Dearest book to be written in the future.
I had a Saturday job at 14 and the freedom of having your own earned money tops anything given to you.
Whatever Saturday or other job he does will most likely raise criticism from someone (taking away a job from a poor 15 year old; when modelling along the lines of "of course HE gets offered those chances") but the fact he has the guts to do it and the support of his parents is admirable.

I'm going to buy shares in the coffee shop!
But well done to the family, they always look close knit and this will hopefully send out a message to other kids of the same age that it is cool to work and earn your own cash. |

To be totally honest..... I’m left apathetic to the media attention this has received…
But I do hope the lad benefits from his work experience much in the same way I’d wish the same sentiment upon any youngster who’s tenacity and good fortune presents them an opportunity to embarks on a similar venture… |
