Daily Calorie Intake

Ive been using an application on my phone called 'My Fitness Pal' and have been logging physical activities and my food accurately.

Being totally truthful my diet has been pretty piss poor the past few days yet i have still remained under my recommended calorie intake.. should i still lose weight?

My goal is to be losing 2 lb each week (calorie deficit of 1000 cal each day)

I go to slimming world, I have no idea how many cals we are supposed to eat a day, I don't weigh or count food I just follow the plan

I figure if your cals out are greater than your cals in you will loose weight, weight loss is just basic maths but off more than you eat

not compared to my 'normal'

i damaged my thigh just above the knee on Thursday whilst doing squats/lunges so walking has been pretty painful and i currently have a bad chesty cough (not a cold or hayfever) so intercostal muscles have taken a battering too

When i started the account i set it up that id be doing ZERO activity, so that anything i did do physically is actually a bonus

Recommended calorie intake for a woman I think is 2000 per day. 1000 is too low especially if exercising. The body goes into a kind of panic mode if intake is too low and holds onto the the fat as it thinks its being starved (I suppose it is!) Eat healthily and exercise hard, as long as you burn more calories than you consume a day you should lose weight.

Losing weight is mathematics...expend more calories than you take in and you will lose weight...exercise is important too...I've lost just over a stone in four months...I spin three or four times a week and have cut out sugar in drinks etc..don't make the mistake of only having one meal a day.. What happens if you do that is your body thinks it's starving and retains body fat as a result..4 or 5 small meals throughout the day is best as this keeps the metabolism going or so the trainer at the gym tells me..and it seems to work...good luck....

That's more like it - sorry I miss read your OP even if you've not been as active you should still lose a bit. The thing to remember is that even when you don't lose every week, is not to beat yourself up about it.

I know you have an under active thyroid as well and that has an effect on our metabolism. Some weeks you can follow a diet to the letter and be 2/3lbs lighter and the next week you can stay the same having eaten exactly the same.

You're doing something about it and that's to be commended. Keep going and well done!

3500 Calories = Approx 1lb of Body Fat.

Therefore if you create a 500 Cal deficit per day (500 x 7), over one week you should lose 1lb!

If you created a deficit of 1000 cal per day 2lb and so on!

However I would not concern yourself too much about getting the calories 100% and concentrate on your intake being good calories not junk foods or refined carbs!

im not talking 'average healthy people'

apparently in order to lose weight all you need to do is reduce your daily intake of calories by 500 cal a day (to lose 1 lb a week)

if you eat 3000 cal a day that would mean reducing to 2500 and you'd still shift a pound of weight

apparently in order to lose weight all you need to do is reduce your daily intake of calories by 500 cal a day (to lose 1 lb a week)

I think if you dropped to 2500 cals a day from 3000 the results would be you'd carried on gaining weigh slower, I doubt you would loose weight eating that much food

could be wrong though

as i stated the diet content hasnt been the best it could be, but ive still been under my calorie intake

in an ideal world every meal is healthy and balanced etc, but if its not would i still shit it if the calories were still under my target?

I've been using the same app for just under a year and have lost nearly 5 stone. It's all about the deficit and I try never to dip below 1200 cals a day. I've been losing 2lb a week on average.

are your weight losses accurate to what it predicts you'll lose?

it says in 5 weeks i should weigh 20 lb lower than i am now if i continue eating the same amount of calories i have been

I don't worry too much about targets; I'm steadily losing and that's all I worry about. I even ate 'normally' over Christmas but since I was aware of what and how much I was eating I didn't put any on. I reckon I've got about a stone to go so it's time to start selling all my old clothes on eBay ready for a new wardrobe. Just a shame about the lingerie, I've got some gorgeous stuff that just looks baggy now!

Its not rocket science, just eat healthy and train hard. I probably eat around 4000 calories a day but have an active job and train 6 times a week. Admitedly I'm not looking to lose weight but its all about healthy calories and hard work. I think the Oxford and Cambridge rowers consume upwards of 6000 calories a day leading up to the race but there's probably not an ounce of fat on them.

Yes by creating a calorie deficit you will lose weight regardless of what those calories look like or how they're made up!

However I suggest that you also want to build muscle mass and therefore speed up metabolism. So to get where you want to be at a faster rate and get you in to good habits that can be maintained when you reach your target it's important that you eat a balanced diet of protein, good carbs and fats at every meal. You should also eat little and often throughout the day to maintain optimum blood sugar levels and prevent hunger. I suggest you also drink 2-3 liters of water everyday!

its not rocket science and on the surface of it it is a simple equation but there is so much more to it than just what goes in and what gets burnt off.

If it was that easy we wouldnt have multi billion dollar companies like weight watchers or slimmers world etc

The trouble is non of tese groups tackle the reasons behind over eating as some (not all) overweight people have psychological triggers that lead them to over eat. Some people will think i am talking bollock but i have said it before and i will say it again, it is just as unnatural to eat yourself to 40 stone as it s to starve youself to 4 stone.

there are those out there who just think 'oi fatty.....step away from the burger!!!' but for some that isn't the only factor to their weight gain.

The most succesful weight loss programmes on tv are those that address not only diet and exercise but the psychology behind the over eating.

So true Evie.. ive personally seen psychologists about food and it truly is an eye opener and believe a lot of people would benefit from a small insight into the things i have learned about foods.

I wouldn't worry about it, the week's done. If you lose, brilliant. If you don't, just chalk it up to experience. Learning what you can and can't do.

Like someone else said, you can eat exactly the same one week to the next and lose one week but not the other. Just one of those things.

From losing 17 stone over the past 4.5 years, it is about a psychological change as well as a dietary change.

My biggest thing was to drink more water, and eat cleaner and less, and exercise more. I've gone from a 24/26, 44GG down to a 10/12 32DD. This was without a "diet" as i have tried everything in the past, cambridge, slimming world, weight watchers, rosemary conley and none of them worked for me - other than making me obsess about food!

I exercise about 5 times a week, as well as being generally more active - walking where I would have previously taken the car etc (I also have quite bad asthma so it can be achieved even with health issues) My first exercises were done to a workout DVD at home as I was too big to fit gym clothes, and felt too self conscious to go to a gym. I was crying before I got through the warm up! Now I am training to be a personal trainer, as well as my regular job!

I am a vegetable, salad and fruit freak, I cook a lot of fish and chicken with those, I try and make sure my kids get goodness.

I do have cheat times, but I'm not a gorger on chocolate and crisps.

If I'm Hungary, I will go for that fruit, or cereals, normally weetabix, it keeps me satisfied, but I drink a lot of coffee with one sugar, add that up in a day, I can't drink it without, too bitter for me.

Cute - I have been very lucky - I have a little loose skin on my tummy, but other than that I've been fortunate for a mid 30s lady.

I use a body brush after every gym session - which stimulates blood to the skin, and helps with lymphatic drainage. I moisturise every night and every morning - I only use nivea, nothing dear.

I was told from a doctor as well, that it helps that I do toning exercises and have weight bearing in my routine as well as cardio as that helps with skin tightness.

And I think some of it is bloody lucky genetics, as I often get told I don't look my age, and my mid 60s dad looks young too.
