It's quite an interest of mine due to how many different styles there are and curiosity about what exactly it is that makes certain genres appealing to some and not to others so I was just wondering what you fabsters enjoy (and detest!).
I'd never heard of them until a couple of days ago but I've been completely absorbed by witch house and electronic dark wave which are probably something of a niche area (lots of drawn, repeating and heavily distorted electronic noise often with eerie, echoing vocals).
Just more to add to an evergrowing list

Ok Bussy, now that depends on how tired, or how inebriated I am at the time.
Should I decide on a lighter tune or plump for some Heavy Rock?
If I have female company, then it will almost certainly be AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and that sort of thing.
If however I'm on my own, then Sugababes or Girls Aloud get a full blast from me |

I love many different styles of music. Classical (Elgar is a particular favourite). jazz (Stephan Grapelli & Django Reinhardt), blues (Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore), rock (Van Halen), instrumental (Steve Vai), metal (Bullet For My Valentine). The only genres I don't like are modern pop and dance as I find most of it lacks musicianship and decent melodic content. |

I used to like most genres of music - unless they involved banjos or steel guitars. But now I absolutely hate the modern pop that uses autotuner. The autotuner really does give the impression of singing robots. Bizarre!
What I do like:
Opera
Jazz, especially the more modern stuff.
Rock , particularly doom / stoner / sludge
.... And obviously melodic black metal and dark jazz.
I'm listening to the Jesus and Marty Chain "kill surf city" right now. |

I will listen to pretty much anything. A good tune is a good tune regardless of genre. My current walk to work faves include DFA1979, the new Lykke Li album, a 90s US playlist (think Shellac, Fugazi, Jawbox, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Pixies et al) and if it's raining then I tend to head for the maudlin folky Indie side of the spectrum. The new Chelsea Wolfe album is phenomenal too if you like a bit of gothy electro folk.
Saying that, I also love William Byrd and there's always room for more Mogwai in my life. |
