I have decided to use slimfast as a kick start to weight loss. I've become static since losing weight last year, but am regaining my focus. I'm hoping that using it for a few weeks will see some weight move, and give me the momentum over the summer.

First shake this morning, and it didn't taste as bad as I thought it would.

Has anyone had any experience of using slimfast, any tips etc?

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I tried it once and didn't like it at all. Wishing you the best of luck with it though

My weight loss has been very slow over the last few months so I'm about to step things up a bit.

I've never been too sure of it as the shakes are 200 odd calories each and you could actually eat a small healthy salad or something for that. I tried it once the same as you but I was always hungry it was awful.

I think all those types of drinks are a waste of money, just eat sensibly,at least then you're not depriving yourself of food

I will not buy Slimskint or Walletwatchers products ever.

They are both the products of a clever marketing man and serve to seperate you from your money quicker than they seperate you from your unwanted timber.

When I feel I need to shed a bit, I cut out bread, eat things that are less than 3% fat and are low in sugar.

It is effective. I just love food too much to keep it up.

That said, I keep it up longer than I would a diet of shakes and child size micro meals.

tried it in my youth and thought ok nice drink but what's to eat now - really think that diet change is the best way - bet you could consume less calories and in your mind think youve eaten a heap more with a bowl of salad / raw nibbles etc -

The land of grey peas and bacon

Waste of money and you pile on weight it's a short term fix if you want to loose weight quickly for an event etc but long term it's not the best solution

That sounds to much like common sense. How are slim fast meant to make a profit with people like you about.

What a waste of dosh. Can't beat cooking decent food.. steamed veg, grilled chicken, fish, rice, stir fry, fruit.. tons of stuff out there if you ain't a lazy arse in the kitchen lol. more protein and vitamins than slimshaft too.

Losing weight isn't physical, it's mental. If you think you're not going to enjoy something, then you won't. If you look forward to it and build it up to be something you really want and are going to enjoy, the it makes the whole process a lot easier.

Maybe forget about the focus on weight loss and focus on the things you're going to do to get what you want.

And then, really look forward to doing those things.

Good luck.

Join slimming world instead...it promotes a healthy eating plan and helps you look ar changing the habits that cause the weight gain. Aparently the mere act if chewing food gets you metabolism working so a liqid diet won't work in the long run, its a quick fix and an expensive one at that. I've lost 4.5 stone since last August and still going strong.

As an avid gym goer the whole myth around dieting companies kind of annoys me.

Some work, some are complete bullshit, which are marketed well and lead you to believe they actually do things.

I've heard mixed reviews about Slimfast but to me a little self controll and discipline goes a long long way. Cut out Carbs or minimise them and track your calories on myfitnesspal.com

Remember low calories doesn't necessarily equal healthy.

Good luck

I've (S) lost nearly two and half stone since Christmas through eating right and going to the gym and I must admit, I'm loving the new look!

I've read a LOT about the right nutrition and what to eat and to be honest, I prefer some porridge with berries first thing in the morning to the high sugar Cheerios and toast I used to eat.

I can't imagine slimfast being terribly good for you as its encouraging you not to eat actual food which, if you eat right, is always better for you but if it works for you, brilliant!

Drink plenty of water, aim for at least 4 pints.

If (when!) you get hungry have a hot drink like a cup of tea or coffee, no sugar.

Keep busy and it helps to take your mind off it.

You can lost half a stone in the first week but it's just glycogen stores. But on the plus side, it makes you feel great and it will give you the boost you want to start again.

Take every day one at a time. Don't think you're doing it for 2 weeks, just concentrate on getting through today.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your posts, and advice. It is just short tern for a week or so to get me focused.

I know long term what I need to do, and last year I did stay to healthy foods etc. And I was running.

I plan to get back to the running, but am trying to protect a long standing Achilles problem.

I will let you know how it goes.

Don't make the shakes the main source of food for weight loss. Diet is ultimately the main thing. The drinks are just a supplement. Just keep an eye on what it is you're eating. Cut out the fats, the sugars and reduce the carbs - that should do the trick.

..all the best bro. Good luck!

Try to cut out as much sugar as you can. Even the low-fat alternative foods have loads of sugar to replace the flavour when the fat is removed.

A friend of mine has lost weight from cutting out a lot of sugar after being diagnosed with type 2 compared when she tried just a low fat diet!

Oh my god, well done you . I've lost 7 stone with slimming world and I've little bit more to go before I feel ok, unfortunately my insides don't match my outsides yet and I still feel like "that fat girl"

As regards slimfast, I used them once but they seemed to upset my tummy, however, having said that it was at a time where there were only shakes, nowadays there are bars and soups and allsorts. Good luck I hope you do well
