Have been wondering what people think when they see "athletic" in the body description of someone's profile?
Only asking because I think it is someone with a fit body, 6 pack and very nice muscles, fit and toned!
But when look at the pictures find a person not at all like this!
Now I know there are varying degrees of athletic, but what sort of picture would you expect to see?? |

it's all about self perception, but it seems us guys have opposite views to the ladies.
There are ladies here size 14 and 16 who see themselves as BBW
and likewise, guys built like darts players who are athletic |

I think you are correct, I am a size 18 and describe myself as a bbw/cuddly
I understand the rugby player build description and kinda know what to expect with that one |

"So are you saying that the guys that describe themselves as "athletic" are world class athletes hiding their light under a bussel??"
No.....under a baggy jumper |

I am average to thin but more athletic than some who have it on their profiles |

To me, and this is subjective, means irrespective of the height or build of the person, a defined body where you can see the pectorals, deltoids, laterals, trapezius etc. as opposed to a body where an element of "relaxed" muscle or a layer of adipose tissue covers those. Do they look anymore attractive than the non athletic type?
Possibly, but for me attraction is a lot more than a big biceps. |

I used to have this conundrum. I originally had myself as average. Then someone I met told me I should have it as athletic. I did change it, but put it back now. Don't think anyone really looks at it anyway, but would rather not be thought of as pretentious I guess.
I am not of the belief though that you have to be lots of muscle to be athletic. |

I agree with you - it is if anything about definition, not size. |

Perhaps chose my words a little incorrectly there. Definition to some extent yes, but not sure you have to have a six pack if you see what I mean. |

its all subjective really...
I played rubgy and american football to a fairly high standard... So even now knees permitting I am fairly athletic...
but to look at me I would be a large lump...
for example... if i was to look forwards in rubgy, or Offensive/Defensive lines at american football....
would you call them athletic.. or fat?.... |

On the other hand I have to laugh at the description 'Fabulous'
I have seen this on several ladies descriptions and fail to see how you can equate fabulous with the at least overweight and more honest very fat pictures on the profiles. |

Yes, 'fabulous' is very wishy-washy and far too subjective.
Maybe doing away with the terminology and having actual weight listed would be easier for other people to understand. |

Does anyone really look at how someone has described themselves? I just look at the pictures to see if i like someone or not. I dont bother with people with no picture whatever they have described themselves as. |

I was thinking the same. An up-to-date picture gives you a better impression. |

So was I.
As others have said it's subjective. My special playmate runs marathons and is slim but he doesn't have defined muscles or a six pack but describes himself as athletic I would say average! |

dont know i mean loads of people could describe themselves as this , depends on the training me thinks a runner is going to look lot different from a weights trainging guy but could both still be described as athletic ? could be realy skinny so six pack there due to lack of body fat or could have actually worked on it ? hard to tell really , me i would think depends on the person themselves and leave other folk to judge what they think is athletic . |

Jimmy Saville used to run lots of marathons too and he could hardly be described as athletic either.
