Now a knee replacement is something I know about! My dad's not long back had his done as has the other halves mum has had hers done for years.

If it's leaking fluid it could be a sign of infection. Does it feel inflamed or "hot" to the touch?

You're really better off at a Doctors as soon as possible over it as it could potentially be serious.

Personally I'd keep it elevated and rest.

I'd also maybe look up n see if you have a local walk in centre you could go to in the morning

Clear fluid and the leg/knee feels fine. Not hot or inflammed at all......just the fluid.

No. nowhere near the scar at all and towards the ankle.

beginnings of an infection better get it seen to before the cells in your leg start eating themselves

i care for a lady who has the same thing on her hip - the hole is barely visible and without sounding gross it leaks a lot of puss and occasionally blood - definately get to the docs as soon as because she now lives with this and its never going to stop ( has done this now for over ten years) it was after a repeat hip operation it started - its dressed daily by district nurses

ok im not a nurse just wondering could it be a leaking oedema?

im sure there are tablets for it, but i think ive just treated people by elevating the limbs to reduce swelling, and by using cotton padding

best guess is to phone nhs direct though

signed, clueless unqualified HCA

Hmm if it's clear liquid and it's very recently done it doesn't sound too serious. It's infection if it's a yellowly funky colour and if it smells well... gunky. Clear liquid could just be fluid build up on the joint coming through.

It might be worth giving the hospital where you had it done a call in the morning. They'd be able to give some advice over the phone.

And you didn't have a dvt after surgery? Is the calf still swollen?

Tain

If you poke a skewer one does the leg run clear or is it still red? If it's red you're not quite ready yet and you maybe need another ten mins at gas mark 5 or 180c.

Can you get a district nurse out to see you?

Had a friend had both knees done at separate times within the last year, takes a whole for the swelling to go down.

Keep it elevated at waist height when sat down, take ibuprofen/diclofenac for swelling, cold compress for 20mins at a time.

Inadine dressings help to keep it clean of infection with a dressing ontop to absorb any weeping ( all available of district nurse on prescription) a good local pharmacy will deliver them out to you if needed hon.

Hope that helps x x

It perhaps needs packing, if its some of the incision, that hasn't quite healed. A simple job, if the fluid, becomes gungy, or smelly, it maybe infected. Antibiotics will be required. If you want anymore info, Hun, chuck me an inbox.

Most likely it is oedema exudate but need to rule out dvt. Best to call your ortho Secretary and get into their clinic rather than see anyone else. Trust me, surgeons are very possessive of their own patients and wouldn't want someone else staying antibiotics etc without consulting them.

Didn't mean that in a derogatory way or as a put down to anyone who isn't and gave their opinion. Just genuinely wanted to know.

I'm level two first aid but stated that. However we've both lots of knee replacement experience plus lots of general operation experience and bones being replaced with metal bits er... Experience. Call us the Bionic Couple as we have the ability to run unconvincingly and in slow motion

It sounds like serous fluid. when someone has an operation particularly in a lower limb and particularly if they are of larger build, fluid that collects in the tissues makes a bid for freedom. Any small or otherwise hole (puncture from a needle while undergoing the op perhaps). Can start to leak this fluid. It is harmless, just messy. My husband had a heart bypass where they cut three holes in his leg to harvest a vein for the bypass. Those holes leaked for nearly 4 months at a peak rate of over 2 litres a day! The hospital advised us to wrap his leg in Tenna lady incontenance pads! No treatment, it stops on it's own eventually.

I'm an RGN but I'd advise against taking any advice online - other than pop along to your GP.
