Just been reading about a woman in the USA who is suing her employers for rsi incurred as a result of her work.

Apparently she worked for an Internet dating site where the men far outnumbered the women.

She was tasked with creating 1000 profiles and maintaining them so that the guys felt there was sufficient interest in them to keep renewing their subscriptions.

Unbelievable.

a straightjacket

Yeah I've been on a few of those sites where you have to pay a membership fee to read mail....all fakes, then when you pay and reply, it all goes quiet and you never receive any more mail

That's why fab is so good

What bit is unbelievable? I should imagine that is how many commercial sites keep business. And she was employed, so the employer does have a duty of care to protect her from harm. Just wondering which bit is unbelievable as it sounds credible to me.

well it was for the poor woman.Dont know how she kept track of all her ids.

Apparently the way it is done is to never refer to any of the punters by name so as to not get caught out,

For instance you may ask her about somethng specific and she would reply "How r u hun".

With a reply like that you have convinced me that all the men I approach are paid by Fab to respond to my messages with vague, non-specific replies.

RSI is painful and debilitating so if she has a case then I hope it helps with her disability.

They do plenty of chat then when inevitably the subject of a meet comes up the chat dries up or the account goes dormant.

Hence lots of single guys complain about never getting a meet, which o f course they wint from these profiles.

I would think there is an element of that on many sites although I don't really look for it.

Some people do get rsi through typing though but I wouldn't disagree the real story is scams.

Most don't until they read about cases like this and a great deal of background information emerges.

A seaside town near you!

I have heard that that happens too. I darent name the specific site but there are a few linked. Guys think they are chatting to potential dates then as soon as a meet is lined up they get blocked or deleted or the profile disappears. This is after they have paid money to actually be able to talk to a person they think is real. Now come one, i'm a woman and some guys do deserve the crap treatment but even I don't agree that this is good!

Yeah they do. My mum had it as she was a typist but she didn't sue anybody because of it.

The sites are confident that they can avoid prosecution because those affected do not wish to suffer public embarrassment.

The "where there's blame, there's a claim" culture does seem to have crept here from the States a lot more in recent years. People will make a claim for pretty much anything these days.

This happens loads, a paid sure used my pics off another site to set up a fake profile, used my info too such as what I was into etc to create a "person". I only found out when a man I had apparently been talking to on said site messaged me in the one I was actually on and was all "dance bumping into you in here" and chatting away and I hadn't a scoot who he was. He told me what had happened so I could contact the site in question but he felt absolutely crap as he had been talking to "me" for a while and had wanted to meet and had been paying a subscription. Felt quite sorry for him.

There does have to be an element of personal responsibility in everything we undertake. As long as the employer was complying with H&S guidelines and supplying proper equipment, then the employer would be safe from legal claims. And it is always down to the individual as to whether they wish to try to make a claim. My gut reaction tends to be the same as yours, but if you have been put in a position where you have been injured due to a lack of care, why should you not be able to claim? I object to the American claim culture which seems (according to the press) to be growing here, but surely we do not want to sink back to the days of serfdom?

I think the basis of the claim is the with so many profiles to maintain she was unable to get any breaks in line with normal guidance.

I guess if you have keep up 1000 ficticious accounts and deal with the correspondence they generate you are not going to get a break.

It may be a little unreal to speculate on the basis of press coverage unless you have seen the court pleadings.

That is why Scousers never buy the Sun.

Also wrong to speculate on the source. It was a US proffesional legal journal.

Unlikely that Scoucers will be reading that either unless of cource they are members of the legal profession.

More locally a guy was jailed in Birmingham in January for operating a swingers site scam.

A couple from Anglesey joined and were astonished tobe contacted by several swinging couples in the area. As soon as they expressed an interest the accounts disappeared. They smelt a rat and opened another account in a different area and were contacted again by the same couoles.

They boss of this outfit had pocketed £200000 even though the membership fees were small.

I had RSI when I worked in a car factory and also when I was typing all day. It's not pleasant to have, but then I can't think of much that is pleasant to have, unless it is an endless supply of chocolate oranges (dark, naturally).

Well the discovery of this information has made me very wary of all profiles on adult sites unless they are personally known to me.
