"I dropped my phone and smashed the screen, anyone know how much to get it fixed? It's a Samsung galaxy s4
Thanks in advance "
is it just the glass or does the whole display unit need changing?
Does it display properly behind the cracked glass or not? |

Know someone recent who took their iphone to one of the many phone fix it / accessory shops and got their whole cracked screen replaced... While you wait £35 ... ( assume they can do other majes of phones too ) Lots cheeper than paying the excess on many mobile insurances. And sure if shop around etc can prob get cheaper .. Hope this helps |

Fairly cheap, though you'll need a set of tiny tools to remove and replace the screen. Unless anyone on fab has a tiny tool to help you? Literally should just be a few pounds. Check whether you're invalidating any product purchase insurance by replacing it yourself, just in case. There are youtube videos showing how it's done - not watched those specific ones, but did for a different phone.
Good luck! |

It will be the screen and digitizer if the glass is smashed. On the Samsung's I believe they are best replaced as a whole as the surround is bonded to them.
I would recommend a good repair shop - smartphones can be a shit to replace the screens on. |

(m) If the display is fine, it's the digitiser that's broke. The digitiser is what makes the touching work & is part of the phone casing, normally by strong double sided sticky backed phone tape. It's not normally glued as phone companies know screens will get broke & make it so it can be replaced. It's best to heat up the case with a hair drier as it makes it easier to remove the digitiser from the phone case. Replacement parts can be really cheap. Before claiming on insurance, find out what your excess is. Sometimes it can be cheaper to get it repaired in a shop without the insurance company getting involved. If you know a techy that's good with electronics, eg, like PC gamers that build their own PCs, most will find it a doddle. I've always built my own PCs & I found it really easy replacing our eldest sons iPod touch screen (£16), & our youngest sons Nokia Lumia 620 digitiser (£12). Don't let just anyone try to fix it though, just because they feel confident. Videos on YouTube can make it look easy & make a lot of people think "I can do that". If a little care is not taken, you will find that the icon you touch on your phone will not be the icon that gets highlighted, & with most smart phones, there is no screen calibration. To be safe than sorry, if you don't know a techy, best get it done in a shop as you can take it back if it's not quite right. Good luck with what you decide to do. |

"The display is fine so it's just the glass. Someone else mentioned timpsons so I'll try there, but will go into my local 3 shop first. Thanks all "
Anything up to about £40, depending upon where you take it.
I had to have the entire display unit on mine replaced a week or two ago because it fell on its corner on a tiled floor. The unit is about £120-130 to buy. I could have tried it myself but I found a while you wait place that charged £145 to do it, so I went with that. |
