When was banter banned?

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I've only been here five months ( and aged ten ) but when was the abolition of banter act brought in?

Unless you're a thread well-wisher, the agree with the posters with tits brigade, why is it that bad just to have a little humour stitched in with what the nodding car dogs say?

Of course banter is subjective - but when a guy includes a thread about fucking his mate's mum behind a supermarket please please please expect some ribbing.

Because sometimes just sometimes ribbing and banter turns nasty when there is no need for it.

Banter happens between friends or acquaintances who understand it's banter. If you're not one of the group then it comes across as cheap laughs at the expense of a fall guy. I love banter. I can take any aimed at me

Titz Towers, North Notts

Andrew Lawrence does a good routine about banter. It's basically some meat head insulting everyone and being an arse and passing it off as 'banter', before Lawrence points out that he's just an arsehole in his opinion, but that's just a bit of banter so no need for him to be offended....

Because sometimes, banter is hard to get across as such in written text to people who don't know you. It can come across the wrong way at times.

Not that I'm aware of, I love it but am aware also aware there is sometimes a time and place for it. I said I wouldn't return to project 'save SU from himself' but.....

OP have you noticed how plenty of people manage humour without alienating others? Even piss-taking sarcy humour?

There is a common denominator in your discontent with other posters and it's you. Plenty of us have been where you are and gotten up other peoples noses.

I find most of what you say very funny because you have a natural way with the written word, some of the threads you start are brilliant.

But a seemingly chronic lack of personal insight means you don't see when it trips over into nasty (not you intending nasty but being able to see how it can be received as nasty) and often it's directly aimed at one person.

That person then has a right to reply and you seem sometimes not to take that too well.

People tend to remember the shitty things we say and treat us with more caution because of it.

Is it not time everybody put their shovels down, regardless of whether or not they have or have not been used, stepped away from, what can only be described as a crater, and took a breath.

People please, this is supposed to be a place of fun and laughter.

Some people, myself included, have trouble realising that the words they say could be taken in a way other than intended.

Other people have just as much trouble realising that words aimed at them are not necessarily intended to be nasty.

Cant we all just laugh it off and get along?

It's very tricky to get humour across in such a way that everyone will understand it's a joke in most places on the Internet..

On Fab, it's best to start a joke by typing **THIS IS A JOKE** and follow it with **THAT WAS A JOKE**.

You'll still get people responding with 'is that supposed to be some sort of joke', of course

Titz Towers, North Notts

If someone is going to post anything edgy, contentious or likely to be misconstrued for comedy purposes they have to be careful to make sure that people know they are only posting in mirth.

You wouldn't believe the amount of postal orders I had to return to people following the instigation of FORUM INSURANCE

Banter is banter! If people start posting a load of bollox people will come guning and then another will follow with their sense of humour.

The best way is to stick your tongue in your cheek.

Online we can't see others laughing expressions and so forth.

So make the best of it have a laugh ad take it on the chin.
