Using Fab as my example, it seems to be people communicating just using their status updates.

I also find it REALLY strange that people feel the need to take a picture of every meal and share that with the world. 1) Most food does not photograph well unless it has been dressed and lit for that purpose; 2) Why are they letting their dinner get cold?

I like Facebook ~ i use it for keeping in touch with people & for arranging nights out, create an event and you can keep track of who's responded / coming. Great for sharing photos too.

Whatssap I use for messaging friends / family ~ good if you want to send an mms.

Kik I use for people I want to chat to more off here but don't necessary want to share my mobile number with straight away.

I use WhatsApp when I'm abroad or family or friends are abroad as it's free if you have a Wifi connection. And good for sending pictures. I use Facebook to keep in touch with a few school and Uni friends who I would not have reconnected with if I hadn't used it.

I have whatsapp, that's all and mainly because I'm a skinflint and its cheap but otherwise no, I don't bother......I had facebook and it was awfull, just a repository of shite people put up that they think other people are interested in so it got deleted....

I have found that if you have the S4 phone and have what’s app on there you can record your voice and send it to the other person rather than typing lol its so easy to use, I don’t know if you can do the same with other phones ot the iPhone but its worth looking into to

I use Facebook for dancing, it's invaluable for seeing what events are on where, when, who's going etc, and for keeping on touch with some long distance friends.

I like the look of whatsapp and I LOVE the voice note app, I use that all the time when I'm in a rush or need to say something complex on a txt conversation.

I use Twitter for short opinions and to raise my professional profile. When something I have written is published other people send the link out on TwitTwat and "I" was getting re-Twatted. I had "followers" before I had an account so I was sort of pushed into getting one.

i use fb to keep in touch with family and friends who live in Wales and the u.s. mostly mine is used to keep them up to date on how munchkin is doing.

i use whatsapp to message family in the u.s. as there's no charge for the messages. i use it for some friends in the uk too.

i only used twitter to follow hot celebs so deleted it.

I've not tried kik but am tempted to because it saves me from giving my mobile out to guys on here.

I love my Facebook. I use it for friends and family. Sharing photos, funny conversations. I'm linked into local news and BBC and see updates quickly on there. I get to know about local gigs, glasto updates, party invites and follow some fav celebrities too. I only use it lightheartedly. I use Twitter as a newsfeed, but I'm less fond of that. I use whatsapp for my android using friends who don't have iMessage. I had Kik but a lot of randomers on there.

Have whatsapp and like it for sending instant messaging pics vids etc ....... Kiks petty much the same thing but rather than handing out your phone number it work via a user name. Safer if you want to exchange messages with fellow swingers without the worry of random calls xx

I use Facebook and Whatsapp...tried Twitter but just wasn't for me. Facebook can get dull at times, and I have hidden a few people from my newsfeed because they were as dull as dishwater, but generally I find it nice to see what friends have been up to and how they are.

I like whatsapp for the layout and ability to easily share pics, or have group messages which can come in handy when arranging meeting up with friends. With the group chats its all organised in one thread rather than having to ask 3/4 people separately and chase back round if things change.

Have recently installed KIK but might be getting rid of it again. I like the fact that you can use it without giving your number out, but I can go on here on my phone so starting to think it's a bit pointless..and its another thing people expect an instant reply on which bugs me!

I have Facebook to keep in touch with Family and Friends up North. I use it quite a lot and went to a School Reunion recently via fb.

I use what's ap to talk to friends mostly. Its free and good for swapping pics etc

Kik is the safest thing to use if you wanted to text people from here on your own phone because it doesn't show your number but seen as you have a play phone then there's really no need to use it unless of course you want to exchange pics as it saves paying your contract providers rates

Not sure id say you was "missing out" but depending on how you use them they are useful tools.

whats app- way better than texting, faster, send pictures free as texting costs.

send video or music within seconds.

great for family and friends to keep in touch

kik- very much like whats app but without the need to swap phone numbers.

Very handy for a place like this or pof.

facebook- I never really used this to chat with friends, but after I went traveling around the far east last year and few other places, I met so many awesome people and made feiends all over.

I use face book to keep in touch with those people.

its also good for joining pages (there is pages for almost anything where you will find people talking/interested in like minded things).

For example maybe a fave tv show like game of thromes page, or alternative news page, or spiritual pages, or conspiracy theory pages.

Fitness pages with lots of tips

List is endless really.

I also have a seperate facebook for work related (personal trainer), have my clients on there and people via word of mouth add me or inbox me asking for my help.

so those 3 applications for me are all very useful and not somthing I could do simply by phone texting.

as for snap chat and twitter ive not used them so cant really say if they are useful or not.

Not missing out. I don't do facebook or kik but do use whatsapp to transfer files sometimes, as it is cheaper than sending picture messages.

I find it a turn off on here to be expected to use msn, kik etc in the 'treasure' hunt of finding someone's photos that they've not managed, due to incompetence, laziness or whatever to load onto fab.

I have Fbk... Since I've moved around a lot... I have a lot of friends on there, from the past even a couple from my infant school. I was very grateful for Fbk, the other week.. I lost all my pictures on my phone... And was able too retrieve them from Fbk...

Whatsapp I downloaded when

My daughter moved to OZ ., its free too send pics...

I'm a private person, I'm not the gossiping type, I don't particularly want to know what everyone is up to unless they specifically want me to know.

As for what I'm up to, I'd rather they mind their own business unless I choose to share it with them.

I have lots of friends, I make the effort to verbally speak with them or meet up with them.

Social media just doesn't fit in with me I guess. That said, I've just joined Twitter specifically for the news feeds. I have no intention of joining any of the others.

Yes I do. It was handy for keeping in touch while I was travelling. But now it just does my nut in!

There's no need in my life for Kik, Whatsapp etc, as I have no requirement to tell everyone the most banal, and moronic points in my life.

My little input.....I use facebook to keep in touch with those I wouldn't otherwise, everyone else I block, I use whatsapp and kik for fab friends as I am too tight to add credit to my fab phone so I can text and send pics for nothing.

I use whatsapp/snapchat for keeping in contact with family/friends as iv got a telephone phobia and I feel sick talking on the phone. Iv got a fb because iv got family all over and they'd miss out on my son growing up if I didnt post pics or vids. Twatter is just a no go though.
