On the thread about a guy wanting a fb, someone mentioned that they want a guy to treat them with respect. It got me thinking....
What is respect? What does this mean to you?

It's something I've been thinking about a lot recently and I'd have to say for me respect starts with being upfront. I'd much rather know what someone's thinking about, even if it's something I might not want to hear, rather than have to guess. I get that I'm a little blunt but I have to be; I can't deal with game playing and bullshit myself so I don't do it to others. |

I think respecting someone means that youll go out of your way to foresee issues or negative consequences for someone and aim to avoid them, merely wanting the positive for them. Youll not be intrusive and will honour their boundaries and stated wishes and needs. You will be honest and open, sharing trust appropriately. This all depends on the circumstances, as people you hardly ammunicate with deserve respect. |

"Some good answers. It also means giving equal *weight* to their needs, boundaries, wishes etc. as your own, if not more.
And most of all be straight with them."
Thank you Frisky, have made a mental note and will action poste-haste |

No bullshit. No drama. Both on the same wavelength and know what each expect. No mind games and no mixed messages.
...i like to know where we stand. I think that's a starting point for respect.

"A song by Otis Redding
Aretha Franklin surely ???
Respect is honouring someone's wishes in my book and not belittling them in any way. "
"Respect" is a song written and originally released by Otis Redding in 1965. The song became a 1967 hit and signature song for R&B singer Aretha Franklin. The music in the two versions is significantly different, and through a few minor changes in the lyrics, the stories told by the songs have a different flavor. Redding's version is a plea from a desperate man, who will give his woman anything she wants. He won't care if she does him wrong, as long as he gets his due respect, when he comes home ("respect" being a euphemism). However, Franklin's version is a declaration from a strong, confident woman, who knows that she has everything her man wants. She never does him wrong, and demands his "respect". Franklin's version adds the "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" chorus and the backup singers' refrain of "Sock it to me, sock it to me, sock it to me..."

respect to me is the same as the old "common law" that used to be the only law of the land and it simply stated....
"That you dont cause, loss, injury or harm to anyone"
Old way always seem to be the best ways eh |

"I will treat as an equal and with honesty, I want NSA sex only. I won't play mind games, manipulate or try to control the other person."
Men often talk about mind games, but what do you actually mean? Can you give a practical example? |
