I never used to be much of a fan of them but as everyone is getting older and some have sadly passed away I now try to go to as many as I can, you never know what's gonna happen or when you will see them next and I actually look forward to them now.

Life's too short, you don't know how many of these parties you have left or how many more opportunities you'll have to see loved ones. It's one day, suck it up and make some happy memories, some day it's gonna be all you have

If you really don't like them, don't go. Let him go on his own.

Depends who's family. In laws are miserable two faced fuckers so parties are always very tense.

However my family are bonkers, Irish Scousers so there's plenty of drinks and laughs so it's great fun...until the obligatory fight at the end of the night!

You need to have a believable, unshakeable excuse.

I once faked my own death to avoid an Ikea trip with my girlfriend.

I love family parties as most of my family are good fun & it usually descends into a d*unken volley ball match by the end of the night.

I'd go & maybe tag on an overnight stay somewhere you'd like to go, on the way back. That way you attend the party, but combine it with something you fancy doing.

I love family parties, I am not the most outrageous in my family so I can let my hair down as the pressure is off

say you are going, right up until the night in question, thing ring and say you cant make it as 'something has come up'

i do it all the time with parties i dont wanna go to.

never been questioned any further either
