This recently convicted sex offender is due to be sentenced at 2pm today....Any guesses as to the term he shall receive?
I must say, he's been appearing rather TOO cool and collected this week....Maybe he's convinced he's invincible?!
And as for his (as yet) refusal of penitence towards his victims....we shall have to see....
I'm just wondering if any of you folk have an opinion on this man.
Thank you all in advance.

his stunt of standing behind the sky reporter during the trial and taking the piss makes one wonder if he's so arrogant that he thought his own 'personality' would win the day..
his refusal to accept the decision of him being found guilty perhaps leads to that also.. |

Ii think that the fact that he has pleaded not guilty and showed no remorse will be reflected in the sentences. Factor in the uproar regarding what was perceived as a lenient sentence for Stuart Hall (who's sentence reflected a guilty plea) and I would guess he will be looking at closer to the 10 year maximum tariff that indecent assault carries. |

"Are there any compelling circumstances why he should be in an open prison? Does celebrity/wealth alone qualify?
Genuine question, I've no idea"
In the limited experience I have of people going to prison, if they are deemed as an easy prisoner and not likely to cause much fuss and their sentence is fairly short they can be transferred to an open prison. I think you have to go to a proper prison first and prove yourself to be a model prisoner. I don't think your crime has any bearing on your moving to an open prison.
As you can see there is a lot of I thinks in there. |

I don't have an opinion on what he deserves as such, as although he was found guilty I haven't heard the evidence personally, and there are plenty of guilty people walking the streets and a good few innocent people locked up.
If he did it I hope he gets what he deserves, if he didn't then whatever he gets will be more than he deserves, as in most cases only he and his accusers will ever know the real truth. |

Listening to David Mellor ( Clifford totally fabricated the sex in a Chelsea strip story, when Mellor admitted to his extra marital affair, which wasn't sensational enough, so MC to sell copy invented the football strip story ) on the radio the other day, Cliffords ability to lie, when it suited, when it made money, at the expense of other peoples dignity, reputation and careers really hammered it home. He was in a position of trust and abused that and his victims. He has been through due process and found guilty, with, I hope a suitable tarrif, for the crimes he committed, which I hope gives his victims some closure. His reputation, dignity, career and his life may now reflect the misery he inflicted on many others. I hope they give him as little thought as he starts his sentence. ( Don't drop the soap in the shower Max ) |

According to the BBC news the judge has told Clifford that he will be considering consecutive sentences.
This is very unusual I believe and I am wondering is this because the judge is going to use the sentences passed to reflect how serious/frivolous he considers each a the crimes Clifford has been convicted of, or maybe it will be the judges way of handing down a 15/20 year prison term without any real possibility of it being reduced to 2 or 3 years on appeal.
Will be glued to the radio and box at 2pm! |

Personally I'm worried that most of these historical cases against celebrities are a knee jerk reaction to make amends for Jimmy Saville. Stuart Hall aside (who pled guilty so there was no trial) this is the first case of this type to stick.
I'm not saying I think Clifford is innocent or guilty (I don't know and neither do the majority of us) but you have people coming forward from 30, 40 or 50 years ago and the case is brought by the CPS based solely on one persons word against another. There is seldom any physical or even circumstantial evidence. Often there was nothing reported at the time of the offence so you have no record of a reported crime to refer to.
Most of these cases have resulted in not guilty verdicts following shaky testimony. Even where many alleged victims were involved with a single accused, all of their testimony has proven to be shaky.
The US has a statute of limitations preventing people from doing this in their judicial system because they see the inherent problems in being able to bring a case many, many years after an alleged crime. Witnesses are dead or have no recollection, there is no physical evidence, the alleged victims can't accurately recall details, the accused cannot recall their movements.
And before anyone bays for my blood, no I'm not asking for us to have a US style anything, it's not just the US who has this rule, its virtually everywhere.
Max Clifford is another in a good supply of serial sex offenders who are public figures.
I worry he has been convicted not on solid evidence and a water-tight case but on peoples perception that he is a cunt and a figure of hate and therefore guilty. He may well be guilty and something irrefutable may emerge but being judged by his peers does not make the guilty verdict a fact, it's merely a decision based on evidence, I hope there was clear evidence and some proof of his guilt. |

Stuart hall actually pleaded not guilty and made his victims relive those horrendous moments in court over again. He only changed his plea to guilty just before the trial finished. |

Ok, try and think of it like this.
If tomorrow night you were at a club and there were people the ages of the Max Cliffords victims there.... what would you think...
What he did was wrong.
My guess is that there will be many more offences that come out and he will get a harsher sentence.
The way most people feel about this (and I understand why);
If Jimmy Saville could be brought back to life we would probably hang him. |

The good news is, that by not asking for other assaults to be taken into consideration at his sentencing, lays Clifford open to further trials and prison sentences if found guilty
