I went for my quarterly STD check at the gum clinic two weeks ago and as i have been quite sexually active since joining this site have the full monty done, bum, mouth and cock swapped, bloods taken etc and discussing with the very nice female nurse she informed me of the rise in oral chlamydia and a new strain of gonorrhea that is becoming resistant to antibiotics, which can be a worry if one is not aware of this. So fully checked and extra bag of free condoms of i went and starting thinking how many people do honestly get checked and how often? I have a reminder every 12 weeks in my mobile telling me "GET CHECKED"
Just had my text telling me all clear which is always a relief even though i know i have been safe when having anal sex i worried that i could have had an oral infection after what she said about oral chlamydia and gonorrhea as there really no signs (early stages) So guys and gals be honest when was you last checked? |

April me, Mr d march. Every 3 months, don't like it but it's necessary and peace of mind for myself and anyone who touches me.
Not brave enough to say we swing but do tell em how many partners I've had. |

I tell them everything, I use it like seeing a counsellor, (though have to say when they ask how many i usually say more than ?) the GUM clinics are so relaxed..Not enough of them though i am told. Here in London there are plenty. |

I know it's stupid not to just tell them but before my first visit I had no idea what it would be like so I decided ahead of time not to say. They're very efficient at the clinic and very friendly too. |

Bit naive ..... Quarterly check .... OMG!
I get checked every 12 weeks.... I only practise safe sex anally but cause I suck without condom .... Your risk is as high as having unprotective full sex. Hence why the need for every 12 weeks. My last check was a fortnight ago with my results received last week - all clear glad to say..... But seriously we should all value our health and as you can see from the lies people put on their profiles... From age to size..... I take what people say with a pinch of salt |

I go about two weeks after any meet. And get checked every couple months on routine we dont have a gum clinic here but my dr I go to for my checks is brilliant she knows all about my swinging and gives me free condoms haha since being off fab I found out id caught hsv-1 but it wasnt through being dirty and doing bareback with every tom dick or harry it was from myself stupidly being too horny with my own partner when I had a coldsore. Now if I arrange a meet I tell the other person/s about it before hand. And I also tell any of my meets im beong checked etc so they know as well. Better to be safe than sorry. |

She didn't ask that on phone but was just quite rude, I know the Doctor will ask though
Its at local hospital but they dont do walk in at the moment just appointments.
I am more nervous than any meet.... were as safe as can be except no condom for oral. Thing is as embarrassing as it may be it would be a lot worse not going and eventually finding out I have an std x |

You don't have to explain yourself to them
You can just say it's a standard full check
And say same again in six weeks when you have a other check
They are really nice |

Be aware OP, it may be very thorough at some clinics. The Brum central clinic are very, thorough. I see both a Dr and a nurse and they do want details, when you had sex and what type of sex, the ethnicity and sexuality of your partner, was oral protected etc. I tried the 'no regular partner' angle but that wasn't enough detail!

I go every six weeks
Seems a lot of others do
It takes two weeks for anything to show so I see it as once a month sort of lol
It's up to you how often you go compared to how often you play
But I like to be safe and spend that half hour every six weeks lol

I think most sensible people go every 3 months as its recommended but there are a lot who say they go but don't and haven't a clue where the nearest clinic is when asked and thats a little frightening. |

Oh they check things like that - if you use protection every time, if you are meeting high risk groups etc. The last time they asked when was the last time and the time before - but I imagine just trying to establish what kind of frequency.
That's my point though - all they are doing is trying to establish what kind of risk level you are under so they can advise accordingly. They don't want to pry, they are just engaging in risk assessment, and you can tailor your answers accordingly to give them hard facts without subjective details. |

Oh I understand
Just didn't want the OP to think they won't probe in detail as your previous message read, they most likely will, especially the first visit. I give blood so was well used to being asked if id had sex with bi men or men from different continents so that didn't phase me too much. Still too chicken to say I swing!

Which ironically might be the quickest way to give them all the information they need!
But the person looked like they were worried about being asked 'How many men have you slept with in the past year?' and I have never been asked anything like that, I don't think it's particularly relevant.
My impression is all they try to establish is if you are 'meeting new partners on a regular basis', if they are high risk, and how you are managing your own risk.
Maybe things like whether or not they suggest HepB vaccination might be relevant to the number of partners, not sure?? I asked for one the other day, and didn't need a reason - but the nurse did want to establish that I was not asking because I had just done something very risky!! I fell short of saying 'I just saw a thread about it on a swingers site forum...'

52 divided by 4 is 13 so hardly a big difference.
And the risk of oral without a condom isn't anywhere near as high as unprotected sex. |

Aye I do know if I just said 'I swing' I would cut out some of the questioning. My clinic by the way does ask how many partners etc and what you did with each. they're rightly (as you eluded to earlier) assessing the risk and also trying to save money.
Last time id had no anal so they skipped a couple of elements. I think it saves money for them.
Maybe I'll get the kahunas next time to just say 'i swing, I do everything, hit me with every test please'
They should have a 'swinger' button on the screen in the clinic.
Often thought it would be great if they had swinger sessions for testing but I can imagine people having to turn a hose on the waiting room if it was a long wait.
They could put a jacuzzi in them so we feel at home. |

First time we went , some 3 years back , we thought sod it we will be honest .
We had been doing this for 3 months and we're very active .
So when she asked how many and the answer was about 60 in the last 3 months , she immediately asked if we were swingers and suggested the hep jabs and a full check
All good and we started going every month ever since, by far the best thing to do and there's no stigma in doing it |

Haha, I can imagine.........well, it does sound like your place goes into an inordinate amount of detail, I would not like that at all. I am lucky in that I have a very gentle place in a semi-rural area to go to, it's way more pleasant than even my GP's surgery where the receptionists are very snotty! |

Every month or so, as I prefer to be extra frequent. U More frequent testing allows things to show up more quickly, where infections have a slow response time to testing. I always assume that everything may have no symptoms, which I think is more sensible.
GUM clinic testing won't show up on your medical records, whereas GP tests etc would. We never know what the future may hold, and having such stuff on medical records - especially now as NHS record accesss is being sold publicly - isn't the best thing to have imo.
You can also buy tests online, if you were ever stuck, though I've not needed this. There are also some areas that do something similar via the NHS I think too. |

"[Removed by poster at 13/07/14 00:13:49]"
18th June and got the all clear texts about a week later. The nurse at the clinic was excellent and she also runs a monthly clinic at one if the local clubs, so totally aware of the swinging & club scene. I've always been 100% honest with them and never felt judged in anyway, in their line of work I doubt they are easily shocked by anything you might have got up too.
Was recommended the Hep B vaccine & had my 1st one yesterday, so it's monthly visits for me over the next two months & lots of condoms every visit |
