"I'm gonna tick all of the above and spoil my voting paper...well it still counts, don't understand people who moan but never vote "

Please, if you don't want to vote because you don't like the options, spoil your ballot instead of not voting. It is counted and is a far better option.

Imagine the embarrassment of British politics if every disgruntled voter spoiled their vote, I'm sure it would run into the millions and be a massive "Fuck you" to the current lot of arsehats we have running the show now.

Well I can try and answer from my perspective, I've never not voted. I would never tell anyone they should vote, it's a choice but for me it was instilled in me by my gran that it was my duty to vote. People fought for me to have this right etc (but I appreciate they were also fighting for my right not to in a sense)

If come election time I feel I'm being sold lies in the form of non-binding pledges and promises, that no manifesto is offering anything realistic or that I believe wholeheartedly that they will U-turn on, then I will spoil my ballot creatively.

For me that's different from the (perceived) apathy of not bothering.

For all those people who are torn between 2 parties and Tory being one of them. Just think the majority of people have slated them. Plus you have probably agreed to what has been said about them. So vote for the other one.

Also it would be nice of we had someone new in charge for a change.

Britain being multicultural isn't the issue. Look at Australia, America for example. When it comes to immigrants. They have it spot on. Would anyone call those nations racist? Yet when UKIP try and point it out they are classed as racist and people who vote for them are classed as one too by some people

They're isn't a test and we are also a small nation and struggling with housing as it is. Never mind of they are working or not. At the end of the day we have to say no at some point. There's a massive difference between closing the doors and kicking people out. Britain needs to sort out the low unemployment in this country and how can they do that by inviting more people? Best thing to do is "close" the door for a while until we are in a better state and then let more in a bit at a time. Have some sort of limit that are let into the country. Otherwise the country will be in a bigger state that it already is. The amount of poor people in this country is on the up. People are choosing between heating and food. 1 in 60 people are using food banks. The average person is £1600 a year worse off than they usually are under the David Cameron's leadership. So it's time for a new approach. I know we are all entitled to an opinion and my one states. We complain when labour is in charge. The Tories have run a mock. So why not give someone else a chance and see what happens.

To all those who say their not voting. Just think of all those who laid down their lives for you...

many men and women gave their lives. It's very disrespectful to them all that you can not be bothered to use the rights that were so hard won for you. If you don't agree with any of the candidates in your area the least you can do is spoil you ballot papers. All spoilt ballots are counted and declared by the returning officer. That way you make your own statement as to the state of the electoral process in this country.

use that right for all those who lost theirs .......

I've voted in every ballot I've ever been allowed to since I became eligible to vote. Including police commissioner as I personally don't think police commissioners should be political party affiliated, but I digress.

I think (just my personal take on things) the fight was for the right not to vote as much as the fight to be able to vote, not voting is simply exercising your rights.

Voting is not a legal requirement so people should do as their conscience dictates.

I wished more people did vote but should they have to? I personally think not.

If everyone exercised their right to vote , it would truly represent a democracy in the truest sense of the word .

The fact that we have the choice is a wonderful thing in itself , and choosing not to vote is democratic too .

What pisses me off , is the constant whinging from those who choose not to vote about the elected party .

If you don't vote , then accept the consequences of having an elected party ( elected by those who bothered to vote them in ) and keep your opinions to yourself as to whether they are doing a good job or not !

"If everyone exercised their right to vote , it would truly represent a democracy in the truest sense of the word

"

I am not going to be boring and copy and paste a dictionary definition of the term into this post. While I admire your sentiment, the number of voters has no bearing on the definition. I prefer living under a democratic government than an unelected one, but the term "democracy" is too often seen as the same as "fairness."

Agree, wish people would do this more, I will be spoiling my ballot, not soiling though. Just need to get my creative juices flowing. I like to make my ballot spoiling good entertainment.

Still think voting is a matter of personal conscience though so frustrate me though it does, I don't think you can guilt people in to doing it. Maybe people then shouldn't moan but im not sure all non-voters are either purely lazy or apathetic. Some have probably gone through the pros and cons and decided that the candidates available, the type of voting system that we have and the general hopelessness of being governed by 'any of the above' means they won't. That doesn't mean their opinion on political matters is therefore invalid.

Telling people they must vote is akin to telling them they can't vote.

I think we should have a "vote none of the above" campaign like on Brewster's Millions, (the newer one, not the original).

As things stand currently, I shall be writing "None of the above" on my ballot paper.

I always vote.
