"Build up your stamina...learn how to run and practise running...build up on your core fitness etc.."
As arch said get your mental fitness in tip top condition as they will try and break you physically and mentally...good luck I hope you are given a shot at the marines |

They re looking more for you giving 100 % effort at all times rather than you being a superman on entry,
Having a positive attitude is key, no whingeing about anything, not giving in no matter what happens.
You ll require Basic fitness so running, press ups, situps etc,
If you re selected the training you ll be given will build your strength stamina to complete the training
Good luck |

Good tips that others have mentioned:
Get used to walking wearing boots, cross country, up and down hills
Graduate up to wearing a pack on your back. Later try carrying an uberella to simulate how your arms would be affected by cradling your weapon.
Increase weights/ decrease times to cover set distances. Follow set routes so you can monitor your improvement.
** Make increases gradual or you may find yourself getting disheartened and injured **.
All the Best for your future. |

YouTube has a lot of similar training to what they doing, get competent with above average fitness - my marine friends were training hard!
1 sit up a second for at least 90 seconds
1 press up a second for at least 120 seconds
Running - 2 miles in 10 minutes / at least three quarters into bleep test
As mentioned before, just raise your core fitness and upper body - you don't need to bulk up a great deal. A lot of the 'bigger' guys at entry don't complete the running and hiking as easily.
Academically, you'll be given things to learn, and marching, carrying rucksacks and running in boots, ironing and camping out etc, the sheep dip is a good thing to prepare for too, if you're claustrophobic then get that in early.
Good luck and keep trying when yen tough gets going! |

Closer than you think |
Practice naked roll-mat fighting. And if you haven't already, try a site like the Army Rumour Service: ignore the banter and you'll find some good advice and helpful folk there.
And to echo everyone else, positive mental attitude is key. Good luck. |

As others have said get your head free from issues ie family friends ex's its a good start.
Get fit its a given but start running so you are used to it and not in shorts you don't have to go marathon lengths but 5-10 miles won't harm.
Sort your diet out if you smoke cut down or stop and finally be ready for a grueling time as 70%+ drop out. |

Heard the saying train hard fight easy. No matter what you train for and however fit you are or think you are, the PT's will prove you wrong. They do not give you the job you earn it. Good luck and it's a great life if you get in |

Thanks for all the help guys as for the fitness test I know I can pass them now and I like to think I am very mentally resilient but as someone mentioned before I know that the PTs will prove me wrong but I guess thats all part of the fun |

Try looking local for an Royal Marine Reserve unit they will be able to give you any info you require also ask if you can go and train with them ? It will help maybe not with the fitness but to get you in the frame of mind for what you actually face?
One of the hardest courses for any! Military personnel ! Even guys fully trained in other arms fail !
Anyone can achieve the fitness but the mind set that they require is the hardest part just remember things will always get worse before they get better!
And they will always move the light at the end of the tunnel
But at the end you will have the satisfaction of wearing the converted green beret that many have warn with pride!!! |

Body weight exercises, 6 mile runs, 3 miles in 22 mins and practice the bleep test. What's your swimming like? You good at heights? How do you find the cold and wet?
Get some issued boots but only to break in as you will have plenty of chance to run and yomp in them when you are in training. Doing so now will only break you. Saying that the boots they now issue to recruits are good compared to the shit black cheese graters.
As others have said you need a good mental attitude otherwise you will quit. Being cocky is also a bad thing as they will try and break you you you are too gobby.
Practice ironing and sewing. |

Trust me mate i served in the staffords for 2 years and then 3 para for 9 if you clear your head and have no outside distractions get your self as fit as you can be and prepare you for the worst and it will be hard for your first year but you get used to it the longer time goes on.but you will never find more loyal buntch of brother in your life and they will stay your freinds for life through good and bad.Its shapes you like nothing else you could ever wish to do.Oh and the main thing enjoy it. |

I've met a couple of Marine PTIs on here, pussy cats in bed but boy they were nice to look at.
Good Luck OP you seem to have the right drive & attitude, that counts for more then the fitness. As someone can always train to become fitter, but it's much harder to give someone drive or change their attitude xxx |

they will fuck you about from fart o'clock to well past the time when you were wanting to crash out..

Thanks guys. Its still good news that im not permanently medically discharged (dam old sports injuries).
Its crazy how somthing that has no effect on a persons ability to train or live a normal life can stop them doing somthing. But thats life rules are rules. |

RMC fitness levels are about the same as Olympic athletes. The most common injuries are stress fractures and ripped tendons and muscles. You really need to be 100% fit before starting commando training.
Sorry fella. But if you really want to get into the commandos you can always go in through the back door...
Join one of the pongo cores and after training volunteer for the Army commandos (Ordnance, Engineers, REME) and then rebadge when you've done your first 2 year tour.
I'm out 31 years but recon it will still be possible to get in the army route. |

if the guy hasn't passed the RM medical what makes you think he will get through the 'warm up' with 59 which is the complete all arms course prior to being ready both on the physical side as well as the mental side to progress onto the all arms course..??
